“Come on, don’t be mad.”

Hannah was also clearly annoyed that their moment had been cut short.

But she suppressed her feelings and tried to soothe Mars.

“Even if Lydia is being completely unreasonable, I doubt she’d joke about something like this. Maybe something really did happen.”

“You should probably go check on her.”

Seeing Hannah comfort him even when she was clearly the one who was wronged made Mars despise Lydia even more.

Any other girl would have been better than Lydia–so understanding, so in love with him. Why did he have to get so hung up on someone so obviously wrong for him?

Thinking back now, Lydia had no good qualities besides being decent–looking and having a few tricks in bed.

A girl like that was fine to keep on the side for fun, someone to show off occasionally to stroke a man’s ego.

But when it came to marriage, a girl like Autumn or Hannah was much better.

Mars wrapped his arms around Hannah, gently patting her back. “I’m so sorry. You’re the one who got dragged into this mess today, and I can’t even be here for you.”

Hannah smiled. “It’s not like I need you here with me. You think I’m some helpless little flower who just sits around waiting for you to love her?”

A wicked grin flashed in Mars’s eyes. “Aren’t you? I don’t know who was holding on to me so tight just now. I thought you were really into it.”

Hannah shot him a playful glare.

“You’re talking nonsense! You know exactly what I mean!”

Mars knew what she meant.

Both Hannah and Autumn were clearly career–oriented women. And while Hannah might not be as capable as Autumn, she was leagues better than Lydia.

Mars had already ranked them in his mind. He said without hesitation, “I get what you mean. You get some rest. I’ll make it up to you as soon as I’ve handled things over there.”

Hannah hooked her arms around Mars’s neck and gave him a long, deep kiss.

“I’ll be waiting for you, then.”

Hannah’s touch left Mars’s blood running hot.

His Adam’s apple bobbed as he was about to throw caution to the wind and enjoy the moment, but his phone started ringing again, relentlessly.

“Tsk.”

For the first time, Mars felt such intense annoyance toward Lydia.

When she couldn’t get through by calling, she started blowing up his phone with texts, completely killing the mood.

Hannah’s pupils contracted slightly. She wasn’t angry, though; there was even a hint of a smile in her eyes.

In her view, Lydia was digging her own grave.

A man like Mars, who would cheat on his wife Autumn, was simply driven by his

baser instincts.

Since he had those instincts and was constantly seeking new thrills during his affair with Lydia, it meant his tolerance for excitement was already very high.

Hannah’s eyes were filled with a triumphant smile.

The more Lydia self–destructed, the higher the chance she could use her as a stepping stone to the top.

With Autumn having already cheated, the only person who could be with Mars was her.

Then, all she had to do was figure out a way to make them divorce, and the title of Mrs. Wright would be hers for the taking.

The King family had fallen on hard times, and an injection of fresh capital from Cloudbreak Corporation could be the very thing to bring it back from the dead.

“Maybe she just really wants you to go over there. You should try to be more understanding of a girl’s feelings.”

Hearing this just made Mars even more furious.

“I’m supposed to be understanding of her? Who’s going to be understanding of me?”

After saying his piece, he finally just waved a hand in dismissal. “Forget it. I’ll go check on her, just to stop her from nagging me about it endlessly later.”

Hannah replied, “Okay.”

Seeing her so composed and not fighting for his attention made Mars feel even guiltier.

“I’ll come find you as soon as I have a free moment.”

Hannah didn’t believe a single word of it.

But she still pretended to be touched.

As she watched Mars walk away, glancing back every few steps, Hannah’s face

filled with disdain.

From her experience partying and living it up abroad, she knew a man’s promise was the most useless thing in the world.

If she wanted something, she would fight for it and take it herself.

She didn’t need anyone’s charity.

Hannah took out her phone, found a familiar number, and made the call.

“Hannah?”

The person on the other end sounded pleasantly surprised. “Are you back in the country?”

Hannah hummed in affirmation. “Ava, are you free? We should find some time to meet up. I have something really important to tell you, and it’s about Owen

Bennett.”

Ava and Hannah had become friends while they were abroad.

While Hannah wasn’t much of a student, she was very good with people.

After going out with her a few times, Ava quickly came to see her as a close

confidante.

Ava might have genuinely treated her like a best friend, but Hannah felt nothing of

the sort.

If she hadn’t heard that Ava’s aunt was also Owen Bennett’s aunt, she wouldn’t

have given a spoiled princess like Ava a second glance.

She’d previously thought it wasn’t the right time to use this connection, so Hannah
