The Day I Quit Him (Autumn and Mars) novel Chapter 18

Chapter 18

“I’m warning you—she vanished while she was under your watch. You better find her for me, or I’ll drag this entire club through a lawsuit for being shady as hell!”

The manager’s face drained of color, fear flickering in his eyes.

He was the one who had locked Autumn up, yet now he had the audacity to demand her return from me, Mars thought bitterly. What else could you expect from a deceitful lowlife like him?

But with Mars’s reputation looming large, the manager forced a tight smile. “Rest assured, Mr. Wright. We’ll begin the search immediately.”

Mars snorted coldly, clearly unimpressed. Realizing the club was no help in locating Autumn, he decided to head straight to the office and try to get a grip on the situation himself.

“Find her. Fast,” he barked before storming out with purpose.

The manager rolled his eyes at Mars’s retreating back, then quickly rallied his staff to launch the search.

Meanwhile, Autumn had no inkling of the chaos unfolding back at Cloudbreak Corporation.

She had finally managed to rest through the night, and the heavy exhaustion that had weighed down her body was starting to lift, if only slightly.

Her thoughts drifted to her phone, which she suddenly remembered had been kicked under the sofa during last night’s ordeal.

Originally, she had intended to retrieve it herself, but after reflecting on her conversation with Owen Bennett the previous evening, she decided to call Julian Moore instead.

“I left my phone at the club yesterday. It should be under a sofa. Could you please have someone go fetch it for me?” she asked softly.

Julian smiled warmly. “You’re far too polite, Mrs. Bennett. Taking care of things like this is part of our job. Please wait here; I’ll have someone bring it back right away.”

With that, he turned and exited the room.

Autumn watched his back with a distant look, a mix of uncertainty and a quiet sense of fulfillment settling deep within her chest.

Since being taken in by the Lopez family, she’d always felt like she was living on borrowed kindness, tiptoeing through their world as if one wrong step would shatter everything.

Later, with Mars, she was the one constantly bending over backward, the one who sacrificed endlessly to keep things afloat.

She’d grown so accustomed to handling everything alone that she’d almost forgotten what it felt like to have someone else care for her.

It wasn’t until she met Owen Bennett that Autumn truly remembered what genuine care felt like.

When Cloudbreak Corporation was first established, few had shown her any respect. Knowing she was Mars’s girlfriend, they looked down on her with thinly veiled contempt.

Everyone assumed she was just a gold digger, clinging to a man, waiting for his fortune to grow so she could reap the benefits.

It had taken countless sleepless nights and relentless hard work to finally shed that damaging label.

Now, she had suddenly stepped into the role of Mrs. Bennett—pregnant with the first grandchild of the Bennett family, no less. If she were still part of Mars’s world, they’d be slinging vicious accusations, claiming she was using the baby to climb the social ladder, stopping at nothing to get ahead.

But Owen’s circle treated her with respect and dignity.
