Chapter 181 Chapter 181
Autumn hadn’t expected these men to show up.
But she didn’t panic, making her decision in the time it took for her brow to furrow.
“Fine.”
Seeing how compliant Autumn was, the men didn’t give her a hard time.
They were clearly just hired muscle, looking to get the job done, get paid, and get out.
Autumn followed them into the car. The moment she reached for her phone, one of the men stopped her with a smile.
“We’ll just hang on to this for you for now.”
He casually pocketed Autumn’s phone, his face holding a mild, almost friendly smile. “Don’t worry, Mrs. Wright. As long as you don’t do anything to piss us off, we won’t lay a hand on you. After all, we’re not animals.”
Autumn didn’t respond.
The man didn’t seem to find the silence awkward, continuing with a chuckle, “Our boss just wants to have a little chat with you. Once you two work things out, we’ll make sure you get home safe and sound.”
His words were simple, and their meaning was crystal clear.
In short: if Autumn cooperated, she’d be fine.
But if she got any bright ideas and tried to pull something, they wouldn’t hesitate.
Autumn rested one hand on her belly, her other hand tapping lightly on her watch.
“Can I ask who your boss is?”
Autumn’s eyes were filled with pure curiosity. “You called me Mrs. Wright. I’m guessing your boss is one of Cloudbreak’s business partners?”
“That’s right.”
“I don’t know if you remember, Mrs. Wright, but back in December, our boss had a shipment he wanted to discuss with Cloudbreak, but Mr. Wright turned him down.”
“A shipment?”
Autumn frowned, “Cloudbreak is a tech company.”
The man laughed. “Come on, Mrs. Wright, don’t play games with us. Mr. Wright already put the word out, are you saying you don’t know?”

Autumn’s heart leaped into her throat.
“I really don’t know much about it. You can see for yourself-I spent my early years hustling to build the company, so I never got pregnant. In recent years, I’ve been running around doing IVF and endless check–ups just to have a baby. He handles all the company business himself.”
“I finally got pregnant this year, and to make sure everything goes smoothly, I even quit my job at Cloudbreak. That’s not hard to verify. Just ask around and you’ll see.”
The man exchanged a barely perceptible glance with the driver.
After getting a nod of confirmation, the man’s tightly furrowed brow slowly relaxed.
“Oh, so that’s how it is. Guess our intel wasn’t up to date. You see, Mrs. Wright, back when Cloudbreak was just starting out, Mr. Wright figured that since he was already out running sales routes, he might as well take on some… piggyback deals.”
Although Autumn had suspected something the moment the man started talking, hearing him say it out loud still made her heart sink.
A wave of fury and utter disbelief washed over her.
Just how much has Mars been hiding from me?
Is he insane or does he have a death wish? How could he do something like this?
Although Autumn didn’t know exactly what these “piggyback deals” entailed, they had a perfectly legitimate business. Why would Mars get involved in something so dangerous?
Wasn’t it enough that he was putting himself at risk? He had to drag Cloud break’s name through the mud with these shady, under–the–table dealings?
Didn’t he realize that if this ever got out, if they got investigated, the entire company and everyone in it would be dragged down with him?
Autumn knew Mars was a scumbag who had hidden a lot from her, but she never imagined he was this lawless, this brazen, with a total disregard for the consequences.
A person has to have some lines they won’t cross. Is Mars so desperate for money that he’ll do anything?
But where is all that money?
I haven’t seen a single cent of it!
She could still vividly remember the time the company almost couldn’t make payroll, and she was the one who had to figure out a solution.

If Mars had all this dirty money coming in, where did it go?

A chill ran down Autumn’s spine.
She thought she already knew Mars, but he was once again shattering her perception of him.
What else was he hiding from her?
“So, it looks like Mr. Wright never told you about any of this, Mrs. Wright?”
The men were good at reading people. Autumn’s shocked, stunned expression was clearly not an act. They immediately realized something, a hint of regret on their faces.
“I truly had no idea.”
Autumn bit her lip. “My husband and I built this company from scratch. I thought…”
In front of these men, Autumn didn’t dare say that Mars’s business was dirty.
She just put on an act of a deceived, heartbroken wife to lower their guard.
And it worked. The men visibly relaxed.
“So Mrs. Wright has no idea where Mr. Wright spent all that money?”
Autumn looked at the man. “You do?”
“Of course.”
The man pulled out a printout of bank statements. “Mr. Wright transferred all the funds to an account belonging to a young woman named Lydia Lopez.”
“And from what we know, this Lydia Lopez… happens to be your stepsister, Mrs. Wright?”
Autumn’s hands were trembling.
If it weren’t for the baby, she wasn’t sure she could control herself.
What a piece of work, Mars!
And that bitch, Lydia!
They played me for such a fool!
She thought those two were just cheating on her behind her back, shamelessly carrying on an affair.
She never imagined that she had walked right into their trap the moment Lydia went abroad.
No wonder, No wonder that no matter how well the business did in the early days, they could never save any money,
No wonder Mars was always crying poor when their life shouldn’t have been so difficult.

Chapter TOI
No wonder every time she brought up the Lopez Group, Mars would say he felt bad for her and would find a way to make it up to her, yet to this day, he had done absolutely nothing!
It turned out Mars needed her connection to the Lopez Group to provide cover for himself!
In reality, Cloudbreak’s rapid growth had a lot to do with the dirty money Mars was making on the side!
More importantly, Mars had been laundering the illegal cash he’d earned over the years and then transferring it to Lydia’s account under perfectly legitimate pretenses.
That scumbag and that homewrecking bitch had been living it up on that income for years!
And she, Autumn Lopez, had been reduced to their workhorse.
Not only did she have to slave away for Cloud break’s success, but she also had to prop up the Lopez Group to keep it from going bankrupt.
And the most disgusting part of all–their original plan was to squeeze every last drop of value out of her, to
turn her womb into an incubator for their child!
“Ugh-”
Autumn couldn’t fight the churning in her stomach and gagged, clutching her chest.
“Mrs. Wright, are you okay?”
The group of burly men had no idea how to handle this and awkwardly scrambled to offer her a bottle of
water and a trash can.
Autumn could tell they meant her no harm, but there was no way she was drinking anything they gave her.
Forcibly suppressing the waves of rage and bitterness rising in her chest, Autumn looked at them and asked, “So, why did you bring me here?”
The man replied, “There was a problem with our boss’s shipment. He wants an explanation from Mr. Wright, but we’ve been trying to reach him for a while and he’s been ghosting us. So, we had to trouble you, Mrs.
Wright.”
