“What’s wrong, Ruby? You don’t want to buy me a dress?”
Ava might have been spoiled rotten, but growing up in a family like the Hendersons, she wasn’t completely clueless. Ruby had been scowling since they
left the house. Ava would have to be blind not to notice she was upset.
But so what?
Ruby was just some distant relative of the Bennetts. Even with the same last name, she was so far down the family tree she was basically useless to her.
So why should Ava bother sucking up to her?
She needed to get over herself. Ava, at least, was the cherished heiress of her generation, propped up by the entire Henderson family. They were worlds apart.
If Ruby wasn’t slightly useful, Ava would have told her uncle to divorce her ages
ago.
A woman who can’t even give him a kid is just dead weight, taking up space.
“It’s okay if you don’t want to buy it for me, you know.”
Ava wrapped a strand of hair around her finger, toying with it. “I can just call my
uncle to come buy it for me.”
“I just thought since you were a Bennett, you’d know a thing or two about luxury brands. That’s why I wanted you to help me pick something out. But I guess you…”
“Oh well, forget it then. I wouldn’t want people thinking I’m bullying you or something. That would be so unfair to me, right?”
Ruby couldn’t tell if Ava was being genuine or sarcastic, and she couldn’t be bothered to figure it out.
All she knew was that Ava was dead set on fleecing her today.

Chapter 211
Taking a deep breath, Ruby forced a smile. “Oh, Ava, don’t say that. We’re family. Of course I can buy you a dress. What’s mine is yours, right?”
“Go ahead and look. Just let me know when you find something.”
Every word Ruby said seemed to be squeezed out through clenched teeth.
Ava pretended not to notice Ruby’s strained expression and chirped, “Okay, I’ll go
take a look then!”
“The associate told me they just got a new shipment in. I’ve got to check it out. Only bespoke pieces or global limited editions are good enough for me, you
know?”
“Don’t you agree, Ruby?”
Ruby had to dig her nails into her thigh to stop herself from screaming. Instead, she squeezed out another smile.
“Of course.”
Everything Ava mentioned was outrageously expensive.
And from the sound of it, she planned on getting a whole new ensemble today.
Ruby wanted to strangle the shameless girl.
Did Ava think her money just grew on trees?
How could she have the nerve to even ask for this!
Ava couldn’t care less how furious Ruby looked. With her head held high like a triumphant general, she strutted ahead of her.
Her eyes scanned the luxury boutiques they passed, and the smile on her face slowly faded.
“Have all the designers run out of ideas this year? How is everything getting uglier and uglier…”

Chapter 211
Even with the backing of top luxury brands, nothing caught Ava’s eye.
The more she looked, the more annoyed she got.
Ruby, on the other hand, was getting happier and happier.
As long as Ava didn’t find anything she liked, Ruby wouldn’t have to spend a dime.
She’d get credit for being generous without actually spending any money on Ava. It was the perfect win–win.
“These aren’t so bad, really. Keep looking. I actually think they’d suit you.”
Ruby knew Ava all too well.
Ava already hated everything she’d seen, so hearing Ruby say it suited her made
her snap.
“What’s that supposed to mean, Ruby? How could this trash possibly be good enough for me? If I actually wore this out, people would think I have totally
low–class taste.”
“None of these will do. Let’s go check upstairs.”
Ava said imperiously. Just as she was about to turn toward the elevator, a flicker of movement in the corner of her eye caught her attention. Inside a private styling studio, a designer was steaming a dress.
The gown instantly captivated her.
“Ruby, let’s go check out that shop!”
Ava’s eyes were shining.
Having grown up surrounded by luxury, her taste was impeccable.
Even from a distance, with the details blurry, Ava knew that gown was a
masterpiece.

Chapter 211
Just from the look of the supple fabric and its texture, she could imagine how
beautiful it would be on her.
Paired with a set of pearls, it would be absolutely breathtaking.
Wasn’t this the perfect “showstopper” gown, made just for her?!
“I’ve never even heard of that shop. What brand is it? It’s probably not up to your standards, right?”
Ruby had seen the gown, too.
She wasn’t stupid. These little no–name boutiques were often the ones ballsy
enough to charge astronomical prices.
Haggling with them would be beneath her; she couldn’t afford the embarrassment.
It was just too mortifying to even consider.
But if she didn’t haggle–why on earth should some off–brand shop be more expensive than a premier luxury designer?
“I don’t care what brand it is. I saw that gown, and I want it!”
“Oh, by the way, Ruby, I heard you have a set of freshwater pearls, right?”
Ruby’s heart sank. “What are you asking for? That’s from my private collection!”
In other words, it was her prized possession. She would never let someone else
