Chapter 213
“Owen?”
Ruby’s eyes widened in shock when she saw Owen appear.
Even though she always played up the fact that she was his aunt, she knew deep down that neither the Bennett family nor Owen himself gave a damn about the connection.
She nervously wiped her sweaty palms on her dress.
She couldn’t believe her bad luck. It was bad enough being dragged out dress shopping with Ava, forced to be her personal ATM, but to run into Owen of all people?
And in a situation this awkward, no less.
Knowing how fiercely protective Owen was, she had a feeling this wasn’t going to
end well.
“Mr. Bennett?”
Ava hadn’t expected to see Owen here either.
Her eyes lit up with delight at the sight of the man she had a crush on, and she didn’t even register the meaning behind his words.
Ruby’s face went pale as she watched Ava sidle up to Owen, acting all coy.
Is this woman deaf?
Owen’s words just now made it crystal clear he’s here to back Autumn up. What is wrong with her, still trying to cozy up to him!
Owen’s brow furrowed in irritation at the sound of Ava’s syrupy voice.
Seeing the woman had zero self–awareness, he didn’t even bother giving her a
second glance, walking straight past her to Autumn’s side.

“Are you okay?”
He took her hand, looking her over from head to toe.
Autumn hadn’t expected Owen to arrive so perfectly on time, and a dazed look lingered in her eyes.
“I’m fine.”
Owen let out a sigh of relief. “Good.”
Ava’s eyes went red with jealousy as she watched Owen ignore her and treat Autumn with such tenderness.
“Mr. Bennett, I-
She took a step forward, wanting to explain, but Owen just shot her a cold glance and cut in, “Ms. Henderson, why don’t you save your explanations for the rest of
the Henderson family?”
“I had no idea the Henderson Family had become so influential they’d insist on paying for the dress I had custom–made for my wife. Business must be booming
for
you all.”
A cold sweat broke out on Ava and Ruby’s backs when they heard that.
The Henderson Family had indeed done quite well for themselves over the years.
But they were nothing compared to the Bennett Group.
The threat in Owen’s words was especially blatant, and Ava wasn’t an idiot–she
heard it loud and clear.
And because she understood, Ava was now trembling from head to toe.
She was furious and hurt, her eyes filled with disbelief.
“Mr. Bennett… why are you doing this to me?”

Chapter 213
Ava had always believed her devotion to Owen was unwavering.
She’d always assumed that even if she hadn’t made a particularly good impression on him, he would at least show her some courtesy out of respect for her family’s
status.
She never imagined he would be so cold to her–and even threaten her–all for Autumn Lopez.
Why?
What the hell is so great about that bitch Autumn that he’d go this far for her?
Is Owen blind? How could a divorced woman, who’s already been married and is pregnant with god knows whose kid, possibly compare to me? I’m a top graduate from a prestigious family who studied overseas!
“Are we close?”
Seeing Ava staring at him with teary eyes, Owen’s brow tightened in annoyance. “Ms. Henderson, please refrain from making such misleading statements in the
future.”
With that, he took Autumn’s hand and led her straight toward the dressing room. “Let’s get her fitted for the dress first.”
The other staff in the store finally snapped out of it, looking at Autumn with a mixture of envy and admiration. “Right away.”
Autumn felt a little awkward with everyone staring at her like that.
This was a kind of favoritism Autumn had never experienced before.
Growing up in the Lopez family, her father, Oliver, always told her that as the older sister, she had to give in to Lydia, no matter what.
And knowing that her survival in that house depended on being obedient and well–behaved, she always gave the best of everything to Lydia.

She even treated Mrs. Lopez with the utmost respect, like a true elder.
She thought that by swallowing her pride and making these sacrifices, she could finally become part of the family. But then came the parent–teacher conference.
She had told her father in advance, hoping that he would come to her conference as a reward for her good behavior.
But in the end, the seat next to her remained empty.
Later, she found out that both Oliver and Mrs. Lopez had gone to Lydia’s
conference instead.
Because no parents showed up for her, Autumn was ridiculed and mocked by her
classmates.
Autumn felt incredibly wronged, and all her pent–up emotions exploded in that
moment.
She lunged forward and let them have it, but when her father finally arrived at the school, he immediately berated her without a second thought. He even told the teacher that since it was her fault, the school should punish her severely, and that he, as her parent, would have no objections.
For that, Autumn had to read a public apology in front of the entire school every morning for a month.
And the bullying from her classmates only got worse.
Autumn had always thought she’d gotten used to shouldering everything on her
own.
But it wasn’t until Owen came along that she realized how good it felt to have
someone in her corner.
She finally didn’t have to be the one to compromise and back down in every
situation.

“What’s wrong?”
Owen noticed her eyes were red and thought she was still upset. He took her by the arm and said in a low voice, “Are you still angry?”
Seeing the ‘if you’re not done, we can go back and get even‘ look on his face, Autumn couldn’t help but laugh.
“No, no, I was just feeling a little emotional.”
