Chapter 227
Mars Wright’s eyes nearly popped out of his head.
“Autumn Lopez, you’re actually cussing me out?”
He was panting, like an enraged bull. “What the hell is that supposed to mean? I’m trying to have a civil conversation about our future, and you have the nerve to cuss me out?”
“Have you got no conscience at all?!”
Autumn couldn’t take it anymore. Her hand was still throbbing from slapping him earlier, so she really didn’t want to use it again.
Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted her purse. Without a second thought, she swung it in a wide arc, aiming straight for Mars’s head.
“Who’s the one with no conscience? Mars, you’re the last person on earth who has any right to say that!”
“You’re the cheating scumbag who was sleeping with someone else while we were married, and now you’re trying to pin this on me? You want to leak this to the press? Go ahead! Let’s see who bites the dust first–you, or the Bennett family when they clear things up! You think everyone’s an idiot? That they’ll believe whatever you say?”
“I didn’t even know Owen Bennett before this! If it weren’t for the embryo mix–up and him reaching out, I
wouldn’t have a clue who he was or what he like!”
“I seriously don’t know where you get this confidence. You want to leak the story? Go find a gossip blog that’s brave enough to spread random rumors about the Bennett family!”
“You think the Bennett Group is spineless and useless like you, Mars?”
Autumn punctuated every sentence with a whack from her purse. At first, Mars tried to fight back, but a woman’s handbag is a surprisingly dangerous weapon. The corners were hard, and each hit was wickedly painful.
Plus, Autumn always carried a lot of stuff in her bag, turning it into a makeshift flail. After a few solid thwacks, Mars was ready to surrender.
“I’m sorry! I won’t say it, I swear I won’t! Just stop hitting me!”
Mars cowered, covering his head with his arms. He’d figured that a pregnant woman, even an angry one, wouldn’t have much strength. He hadn’t expected her to be a total tiger. The bag felt like a brick, and the blows left him completely dazed.
“I really know I was wrong… I promise I won’t say a word to anyone. Please, stop hitting me… please…”
“Autumn… babe…”

“Can’t I just apologize? Seriously, stop, my head is killing me…”
Hearing Mars’s voice go from full–on bluster to a weak, mosquito–like whine was incredibly satisfying for
Autumn.
She had been wanting to do this ever since she found out everything he’d done.
She’d only held back to make sure her plan succeeded.
Besides, back then, she hadn’t been completely over him,
But everything Mars did afterward slowly chipped away at her feelings until there was nothing left.
The man wasn’t worth her past devotion, and he certainly wasn’t worth her anger or sadness now.
Autumn was truly grateful that she’d made the decisive choice to divorce him.
Otherwise, she couldn’t imagine what would have become of her.
“Get out!”
Exhausted from the beating, Autumn lowered her bag, panting.
She was surprised to see that after her purse wasn’t even misshapen. It was still in perfect condition.
Designer bags really are built to last.
I that,
It’s not just for carrying things; it’s a self–defense weapon, too.
Mars had no idea that Autumn’s mind was curr Occupied with thoughts about her bag.
If he had, he probably would have coughed up blood from sheer fury.
Shooting Autumn a venomous glare, Mars made it clear he wasn’t really backing down. He was just temporarily compromising because her fighting skills were just too damn fierce.
“This divorce isn’t over.”
He gave her one last, deep look. “I’ll be back for you.”
Autumn just scoffed, not bothering to reply.
Soon enough, Mars probably won’t have the time to waste on me anymore.
After Mars left, Autumn took a moment to catch her breath.
She straightened her slightly disheveled clothes and was about to turn and head back into the office when she noticed a car parked nearby. As she looked over, a door opened, and a tall figure stepped out.
“Owen, so this is the woman you’re marrying? Damn, she’s impressive! That fighting spirit is something else!”

Autumn was confused.
She didn’t recognize the young woman in front of her.
Before she could ask, Owen Bennett got out from the other side of the car.
He had a faint, proud smile on his face. While he was responding to the girl, his eyes were locked firmly on Autumn. “Well, you have to consider who picked her.”
The girl burst out laughing. “Owen, you’re so shameless.”
It slowly dawned on Autumn that the “Owen” the girl was talking to was Owen Bennett.
And the “impressive” woman with the great “fighting spirit” was her.
Realizing that the two of them had likely witnessed the entire scene of her beating up her scumbag ex, Autumn flushed crimson, the heat spreading from her ears all the way down to her neck.
“Let me introduce you,” Owen said, leading the girl over to Autumn.
