“Of course!”
“A while back, there was this incident in our circle. A trust–fund kid married a college professor. One time, the professor was invited to a party, and when the other wealthy wives saw her carrying a bag that only cost around fifty thousand dollars, they pretty much ignored her. They all whispered behind her back that her husband must not care about her, wondering why such a rich guy would only buy her a bag that ‘cheap.”
“After the professor found out, she stopped going to those gatherings.”
“Autumn, I’m not trying to scare you. Being Mrs. Bennett puts you above a lot of that, but sometimes you still

have to play the game.”
“You can skip one or two parties, but you can’t skip all of them… And you can’t avoid running into the elders during the holidays.”
Autumn’s head was spinning.
Owen had never told her that marrying into a wealthy family would be this complicated…

Seeing the deep frown on Autumn’s face, Nina quickly tried to reassure her. “But hey, don’t worry, Autumn. A guy like my brother would never make you go to those things if you don’t want to.”
Autumn shook her head. She was just a little shocked to hear about it all.
After a moment of reflection, she realized what Nina was describing was probably just the tip of the iceberg.
Being a society wife was never going to be easy.
But since she’d chosen this path, Autumn was determined to see it through.
“Forget the designer bags, I’m really not into this stuff. But I wouldn’t mind looking at some jewelry.”
Autumn hadn’t forgotten the jewelry set Margaret Bennett had given her.
Her company, Stream Cloud Technologies, was doing very well now. All its projects were stable and proceeding in an orderly fashion. Now that she no longer had to bail out the Lopez Group and her family, she’d long since escaped the cycle of living paycheck to paycheck–or worse, being in debt. Her savings account was looking pretty substantial.
This was the perfect opportunity to have Nina help her pick out a piece of jewelry as a return gift.
“Yes! Let’s go!”
Nina had been a little worried she’d overwhelmed Autumn by telling her so much at once.
She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Autumn quickly return to her usual calm, composed self.
*No wonder my brother likes her so much,* Nina thought. *That cool, collected vibe–they’re a perfect match.*
“So, what are you looking for, Autumn? Jade, diamonds, or gold?”
Autumn thought for a moment. “Gold.”
While mega–rich families probably didn’t need gold to prove their wealth, Autumn had a habit of buying things
that wouldn’t lose their value.
Besides, gold jewelry wasn’t necessarily any less beautiful than other precious gems.
Autumn even had an idea to design a piece herself and was thinking of asking at the store if it was possible.
A woman of Margaret Bennett’s status surely wasn’t lacking for luxury goods. A custom–designed piece would show much more heart.
Autumn’s motto was simple: either don’t do it at all, or db it to perfection.
“I know this one jewelry shop that makes the most gorgeous pieces! I heard the owner comes from a long line of master craftsmen–like, legendary royal–jeweler–level good.”

“He knows all these incredibly intricate designs, and the necklaces he makes are especially beautiful.”
“I’ll take you there, Autumn.”
Going shopping with Nina was clearly the right move.
Even though she hadn’t lived in the country for a while, she knew the local scene inside and out
All Autumn had to do was follow her lead to find out which store had the newest collections and which one
had a style that suited her best.
She could even find out which stores were hotspots for mistresses.
“That one right there.”
“It has a flashy name and it’s crazy expensive, so mistresses love to bring their sugar daddies there to shop.”
“And if they get dumped, all they have to do is bring the receipt back, and the store gives them a very satisfying buy–back price.”
“Either way, they don’t lose out.”
Autumn was floored.
“What if they run into each other in the store?”
Nina gave her a mysterious smile. “Then you get a front–row seat to the drama.”
Autumn murmured an “oh” and couldn’t help but glance over at the store.
When she did, she suddenly froze.
“Autumn?”
Seeing Autumn standing there as if she were in a daze, Nina got nervous. “What’s wrong, Autumn? Should we go sit down for a minute?”
Autumn shook her head, grabbed Nina’s hand, and pointed toward the store. “Nina, look. There’s someone we
know over there.”
Nina let out a little “huh?” and raised an eyebrow as she looked over.
She really did see a familiar face.
“Isn’t that the girl from last time…”
“Hailey.”
Autumn said the name, her voice clear and certain.
“Right, right, Hailey.”

Nina’s face was a picture of shock. “And the guy with her… doesn’t he look like that guy from the Henderson family?”
Autumn didn’t know anyone from the Henderson family besides Ava, but connecting the dots from what she’d heard before, she quickly guessed that the “guy from the Henderson family” Nina was talking about was Owen’s uncle–in–law.
In other words, Ava’s uncle.
“Hailey’s so young. She’s already mixed up with that guy from the Henderson family?”
Nina pulled out her phone and did a quick search, confirming the man’s identity.
“It really is Marcus Henderson.”
Autumn leaned in to look and saw the man’s full face in what appeared to be a family portrait from some gathering.
He had a slight resemblance to Ava and looked decent enough on the surface, but he gave off a bad feeling.
He looked like the type of person with no boundaries and a very low moral compass.
No wonder he’d get involved with someone like Hailey.
“Wouldn’t Ava flip out if she knew about this?”
Nina’s face lit up with excitement. Just as she was about to snap a few photos for potential future leverage, two women rushed into the store.
As they passed each other, Autumn made eye contact with one of them and raised an eyebrow.
“Looks like they already know.”
“Huh? What?”
Nina was too busy trying to get a picture to hear Autumn clearly.
