Autumn Lopez Finally Had a Family Who Truly Loved Her
Autumn Lopez Finally Had a Family Who Truly Loved Her
Autumn Lopez had considered many possibilities.
In fact, before Mars Wright had shown up, she had even fantasized about Owen’s parents liking her and immediately accepting her as their daughter–in–law.
But after Mars appeared, Autumn had told herself that was absolutely impossible.
It wasn’t just because of the vicious things Mars had said.
It was because of reality.
She was, after all, a recently divorced woman.
For an elite, high–society family like the Bennetts, that already made her a highly unsuitable choice.
On top of that, Mars Wright had created a scene, essentially dragging the Bennett family’s reputation through the mud.
For a family like the Bennetts, reputation was everything.
Even though she had just had a wonderful conversation with Mrs. Bennett, Autumn never expected them to have a positive attitude about her becoming their daughter–in–law.
They were two completely different things, after all.
As a woman, Mrs. Bennett might admire her.
But once she was their daughter–in–law, or even the future matriarch of the Bennett family, they would surely find her inadequate.
Mrs. Bennett’s words had not only set Autumn’s mind at ease but had also shown her what the heads of a truly powerful family were really like.
They had broken free from the rigid conventions of high society, genuinely considering whether Autumn and Owen were a good match from a parent’s

perspective.
“What’s going on here?”
Owen Bennett pushed the door open to see the two most important women in his life hugging each other tightly.
He frowned, striding quickly to Autumn’s side and pulling her into his own arms.
Seeing Autumn’s eyes and nose red from crying, Owen grew anxious.
“Why are you crying so hard?”
“Mom, Dad, didn’t you promise me you’d have a good talk with her?”
Owen looked frantic, like a possessive dog guarding its food.
Mrs. Bennett, who had been crying herself, almost laughed in exasperation at his
words.
“Which of your eyes saw me bullying Autumn? You little brat, you’ve really gotten bold, haven’t you? Daring to accuse your own mother?”
With that, Mrs. Bennett tugged on her husband’s arm, her voice turning sweet and cute as she whined, “Honey, you have to do something about your son!”
Mr. Bennett couldn’t resist his wife’s charm. He wrapped an arm around her waist and shot Owen a fierce glare, scolding him irritably, “I know you’re worried about your wife, but you can’t bully *my* wife!”
Autumn had still been crying, but hearing that, she nearly choked.
Seeing her cough, the others instantly forgot their bickering. Someone grabbed water while another patted her back. For a moment, Autumn felt like some kind of rare and precious animal.
“Are you okay?”
“Here, drink some water.”

Mrs. Bennett dropped the act, nudging Owen away from Autumn. She wrapped an arm around Autumn’s shoulders and held a glass of water to her lips.
Autumn’s mother had passed away when she was very young, so she had barely experienced any maternal love during her childhood.
When Lydia’s mother married into the family, Autumn essentially lost both her
parents.
She had to make herself more and more outstanding just to have a sliver of
presence in the Lopez family.
It was safe to say Autumn had never experienced a normal family environment.
Mrs. Bennett’s presence filled the void left by that lack of motherly love.
Autumn’s tears flowed even more fiercely.
She took a sip of water from Mrs. Bennett’s hand and quickly composed herself.
“Thank you, Mrs. Bennett.”
Her formal thanks made Mrs. Bennett pout.
“Why are you still calling me Mrs. Bennett?”
As she spoke, an idea seemed to strike her. She pulled a thick envelope out of her
pocket.
“A little bonus for the name change.”
She stuffed the envelope into Autumn’s hands. “So, do you know what to call me
now?”
Autumn’s eyes went wide.
Seeing this, Mr. Bennett followed his wife’s lead, placing another envelope in front of Autumn, his face full of the same eager anticipation.

Stared at by the two of them with such intense gazes, a blush crept onto Autumn’s
cheeks.
“I…”
Mrs. Bennett lovingly stroked Autumn’s hair, understanding her difficulty and
embarrassment.
“It’s okay, dear.”
“Just because you can’t say it now doesn’t mean you won’t be able to later.”
“We’re still strangers to each other, really. We can take it slow.”
Even though she said that, Autumn could still see a hint of disappointment in Mrs.
Bennett’s eyes.
A warmth spread through Autumn’s heart. She reached out, hugged Mrs. Bennett,
and called out sweetly, “Mom.”
Mrs. Bennett froze for a second, then burst into tears of joy.
“Yes!”
“Yes!”
She answered twice in a row, hugging Autumn as if she were her own precious
child, unable to let go.
“Raising Owen wasn’t a total waste after all. He knew how to bring me home a wonderful daughter–in–law.”
“Oh, Autumn, I’m so happy. My son doesn’t have to be a bachelor forever.”
