The Day I Quit Him (Autumn and Mars) novel Chapter 301

Autumn Lopez read the tweet over and over again, a small smile playing on her lips.

No wonder Mrs. Bennett still had so many diehard fans after being out of the spotlight for years.

Just from that one lively, authentic tweet, you could tell the awardwinning actress must have been an incredibly vibrant person back in the day.

Just imagine: a woman who was a toptier actress, the best in the country, who also came from an excellent family, yet was completely downtoearth. She even went abroad and brought glory to her country, a first in

film history.

Just thinking about someone like that, Autumn couldn’t help but fall in love with the idea of her.

And this person actually existed.

Some people say beauty is the ultimate weapon.

But Autumn felt that for Mrs. Bennett, beauty was the least remarkable thing about her.

She believed that even if Mrs. Bennett had an ordinary face, her undeniable charisma would have made

everyone love her all the same.

Seeing that the tweet from the actress had instantly brought public opinion under control, Autumn logged

out of Twitter, relieved.

She thought the matter was settled, but a few days later, a new story broke online, claiming the actress had

retired back then because she’d found a wealthy backer.

The accuser was adamant and claimed to have proof.

As soon as Autumn saw the news, she called Mrs. Bennett.

Mom, have you seen the news online?

Mrs. Bennett’s voice sounded perfectly normal. I saw it. Don’t you worry.

Autumn breathed a sigh of relief.

As long as Mrs. Bennett wasn’t letting this stuff get to her, that was all that mattered.

If you need any help, Mom, just let me know.

Although Autumn wasn’t in the entertainment industry, she knew a thing or two about public relations.

Back when Cloudbreak Corporation first emerged as a dark horse in the business world, it was immediately followed by countless rumors and smear campaigns.

Some people spread rumors that Autumn had slept her way to funding.

Others said there had to be something shady about how fast Cloudbreak was growing.

At its worst, Cloudbreak even had a team of federal investigators show up.

The charge of commercial crime was serious, and at the time, everyone thought Cloudbreak was finished.

But somehow, the company pulled through.

In a way, it was a blessing in disguise.

After learning that the investigators found nothing, public trust in Cloudbreak soared. For a while, they were so flooded with business they could barely keep up.

Autumn rode that wave of momentum, taking Cloud break public in one fell swoop.

During that time, Mars Wright had been incredibly kind to her, feeling bad about how hard she was working.

It was only later that Autumn found out he had been in constant contact with Lydia in another country the

entire time.

Looking back on those memories now, it felt like they belonged to another lifetime.

Autumn had expected to feel a surge of emotion thinking about the past, but now she felt as calm as a

spectator watching someone else’s story.

This was a very good sign. It meant she had truly, completely moved on from that disastrous marriage.

Autumn was even grateful for those past experiences. If it weren’t for those trials, she might never have

grown into the person she was today.

Thank you, Autumn.

You’re a good kid. Just focus on taking care of yourself. I can handle this online stuff.

Besides, your father is here.

Autumn figured that was true.

After a few more words with Mrs. Bennett, she hung up.

Owen Bennett came home around noon, while Autumn was in the middle of lunch.

What are you doing back? You should have told me, I would’ve waited for you.

Owen rarely came home for lunch. Autumn had offered to bring him food at the office before, but he said it was too much trouble, so that service was quickly discontinued.

You just eat, don’t worry about me.

Owen smiled, taking her arm. How could I let a pregnant woman wait for me to eat?

Chapter 301

As the months went by, Autumn found herself getting hungry very easily.

Three meals a day were no longer enough for her and the baby.

But the doctor had also warned her not to eat too much, recommending smaller, more frequent meals

instead.

This made Mrs. Turner and the staff incredibly nervous, terrified of Autumn overeating. Every meal was meticulously planned to be nutritious but light.

Autumn had once been caught redhanded by Mrs. Turner when she snuck into the kitchen for a snack because she was still hungry.

Mrs. Turner had almost burst into tears.

She pleaded with a look of sheer terror, Madam, you really can’t eat too much. If the baby gets too big, you’ll be the one suffering during labor.”

Let’s not eat this, okay? I’ll have the chef make you something delicious for the next meal.

Autumn was really just craving something, but seeing Mrs. Turner so distraught, she was afraid of driving the

poor woman mad. She quickly put the food down and went back to her room.

Sure enough, Autumn later saw that Mrs. Turner had prepared a wide array of delicious treats.

The main principle was small portions but a huge variety.

Autumn wasn’t a difficult pregnant woman. As long as there was food, she was happy.

Mrs. Turner was delighted to see Owen back.

After asking what he wanted to eat, she hurried back to the kitchen to get busy.

You still haven’t said why you came home for lunch today.

Autumn had pretty much finished eating. With Owen home, she lost interest in her chopsticks and propped

her chin in her hands, watching him.

She had no idea how captivating she looked right then. Owen’s throat tightened. He reached out to stroke her

cheek and said with a soft laugh, Can’t I just want to come home and have lunch with you?

Autumn swatted his hand away. Yeah, right!

The Bennett Group was always swamped. Where would he find the time to come home and eat with her?
