The Day I Quit Him (Autumn and Mars) novel Chapter 32

Chapter 32

Autumn’s head was spinning with questions.

I’m not stopping you from seeing the baby.

But the baby’s in my belly, so how is he supposed to do that?

The doctor said the baby has some faint awareness now. If I’m not around, I’m afraid they’ll forget who their

father is.

He made such a good point that Autumn couldn’t argue.

Fine

What else could she say when he put it like that?

Besides, to be blunt, she was the one who’d created this awkward situation.

If it weren’t for the coolingoff period, Owen wouldn’t have to sneak around like this.

At the end of the day, she was the one holding him up.

Autumn sighed. Should I have someone bring an extra meal for you?

No need, I’ll take care of it.

Owen seemed to be treating it as a routine matter. After saying that, he mentioned he had more work to do.

Autumn took the hint. Okay, I’ll let you go then.

Go ahead and get back to your work.

Owen gave a nod. See you tonight.

Autumn was silent for a moment. See you tonight.

The call ended.

Autumn couldn’t shake a strange feeling.

Owen seemed close to her, but not too close.

It left her wondering if he was only interested in the baby in her belly, or if he had other intentions.

But she quickly dismissed that idea.

This is Owen Bennett we’re talking abouta man who can pull strings anywhere!

Not to mention she was still, legally, Mars Wright’s wife.

Even if she wasn’t, it would be nearly impossible for her to get with a man in his league.

So there was no way he was actually interested in her.

Autumn breathed a sigh of relief.

A purely transactional relationship didn’t stress her out. It was just a matter of each getting what they

wanted.

Still

Autumn gently touched her stomach.

No matter what, this was a child she was carrying. And even though discovering the truth had filled her with

a mix of fury and shock, and she’d unfairly directed some of that anger and confusion toward the baby, it was

still her child.

It had her blood running through its veins.

She had no idea what other twists and turns might happen once the baby was born.

But that wasn’t something she needed to worry about right now. She’d just take it one step at a time.

Worse comes to worst, she’d negotiate with Owen for visitation rights.

Autumn had never even considered taking Owen to court for custody.

For one, she had no desire to raise a child alone. For two, she stood no chance of winning a custody battle

against the Bennett family.

With the Bennetts, the child would be their most cherished heir, maybe even the next head of the family, and

receive the best education imaginable.

With her, on the other hand, the child would just be held back.

After all, both the Lopez family and Mars were a huge mess to deal with.

Once she’d completely dealt with those problems, she would try to work something out with Owen to make sure she didn’t miss out on the important moments in her child’s life.

It was the only thing she, as a mother, could do for her child.

Autumn opened her laptop again and went back to work on the proposal.

The transfer of the Eastville project was complete. Although she had handed it off to the team Owen had recommended, she couldn’t afford to get complacent.

She hoped her proposal would impress the officials. If she could negotiate a partnership with them, that

would be even better.

That would maximize the profits from the Eastville project.

Even if it didn’t work out, she would still benefit. Either way, it was a winwin.

After finishing, she sent it to the group chat and left a voice message.

This is the proposal I wrote up. Take a look and see if there’s anything to add. If it looks good, let’s figure out how to get it submitted as soon as possible.

Someone in the chat responded almost immediately.

During their previous meetings, the team had already noticed that Autumn knew her stuff. She was competent and sharp, not some pampered rich girl.

But after reading her proposal, they realized they had still seriously underestimated her.

Her proposal was incisive and concise, yet it perfectly nailed every key point. It was a masterclass in proposal writing.

They were confident that once the officials saw this plan, they wouldn’t forget it.

And that was more than enough!

Whether the proposal was accepted or not, just successfully building a relationship with the government would guarantee that the Lopez Group’s future development wouldn’t be hindered.

They had originally thought Mr. Bennett sent them over to do grunt work for Autumn.

They never imagined they’d be getting carried by a total pro. Now, the team was more fired up than ever, eager to make a fortune with her.

The team members, who were temporarily working from home instead of at the Lopez Group office, opened their private group chat. As expected, it was already blowing up.

[Dudes, let’s get hyped! When Ms. Lopez gets back to the Lopez Group, we’ll be her original, loyal crew!]

That comment got everyone even more motivated. They were practically ready to show up at Autumn’s doorstep and swear their undying allegiance.

Autumn had no idea her proposal had stunned the team. Mars had spent years constantly putting her down, so while Autumn knew she was good, she had no idea just how good.

Going solo, she wasn’t entirely confident, so she didn’t have high hopes that her proposal would actually sway the officials.

But that evening, Owen surprised her with some good news.

The officials saw your proposal. They’ve already formed a project team and are doing the initial assessment.
