Autumn Lopez actually laughed out loud.
He was demanding a three–hundred–million–dollar bride price, but the dowry was only a forty–thousand–dollar car.
Her father, Oliver Lopez, had once again shattered Autumn’s perception of him.
“It’s not even dark out. You must be dreaming.”
Oliver’s temper flared at Autumn’s mocking tone.
“What’s that supposed to mean? You’re not willing to help?”
“It’s only three hundred million. Is that a lot?”
Autumn shot back, “Then why don’t you have it?”
“The Lopez Group has to be worth at least that much, right? Why don’t you sell the company and use that for your bride price?”
“Why should I? The Lopez Group is our family’s legacy, built from the ground up. How could I sell it?”
“Then go sell yourself!”
Autumn didn’t bother to spare his feelings.
“The girl you found is worth three hundred million. If you put that old face of yours on the market, you could probably fetch a similar price. You two can buy each other. That way, everyone gets a bright future, and you even save some money.”
Oliver’s face turned beet red. He pointed a trembling finger at Autumn, unable to form a complete sentence.
“Are you saying you’re not going to ask Owen Bennett for the money? You’re dead set on not giving me the three hundred million?”
“Aren’t you afraid I’ll just go to Owen myself?”
Autumn shrugged. “Be my guest.”
Autumn could guarantee that her father wouldn’t even get to see Owen’s face before being thrown
out.
Chapter 317
Oliver was, at his core, a coward who bullied the weak and feared the strong.
The only reason he dared to cause a scene in front of Autumn was because he thought she was a soft touch. She’d helped him out of worse messes before, so surely she wouldn’t just let him hang out to dry now.
Besides, three hundred million really wasn’t that much!
Autumn was about to become the wife of a multi–billion–dollar corporation’s CEO. Why was she so hung up on a measly three hundred million?
But he would only dare to say these things to Autumn, never to Owen Bennett.
After all, a single, casual word from Owen could make both the Lopez Group and him disappear.
Oliver wasn’t stupid enough to provoke a tiger in its den.
“What will it take for you to help me get the three hundred million?”
Oliver was clearly willing to do anything for this son he so desperately wanted.
“What if I get on my knees and beg? You know how much I need a son. Autumn, I’m begging you as your father. I’ll do whatever you want, as long as I can have this son.”
Autumn looked at her father with a complicated expression.
“And what’s your plan for Lydia and her mother?”
Lydia and her mother were nothing like her and her own mom.
Besides, if it hadn’t been for Autumn’s mother falling ill, Oliver would have never been able to marry
Lydia’s mother so easily.
Oliver was already a mess of his own making. How did he have the nerve to come to her for help?
Did he think having three hundred million dollars meant he could have two wives?
“What are they worth?”
Autumn had thought Oliver might have at least some affection for Lydia and her mother, but his words dripped with contempt.
“Lydia ruined her life playing homewrecker, and now she’s probably hiding somewhere getting plastic surgery. She’s damaged goods. Even if I tried to marry her off in an alliance, I doubt anyone

would want her.”
“Now that she’s like this, does she really expect me to support her?”
“Her mother can’t have any more children, so why would I keep them around? They’re worthless to me, so why let them be an eyesore? The title of Mrs. Lopez should go to someone who can actually fulfill the role.”
“Aren’t
you afraid they’ll cause a scene?”
Autumn found the irony staggering.
Her father had cheated on her mother with Lydia’s mother while her own mom was bedridden and dying.
And now, for the sake of an unborn son, he was ready to abandon his wife and daughter all over again.
The depths of human selfishness were on full display in Oliver Lopez.
He truly saw other people as nothing more than pawns, with only himself at the center of his world.
“They still depend on me for a living. You think they dare to make trouble for me?”
“Autumn, let’s not talk about them. Just help me this one time.”
Autumn thought for a moment, then offered a solution.
“Sell the Lopez Group to me, and I’ll give you the three hundred million.”
With all her assets combined, it wasn’t an impossible sum for her to produce.
Of course, she didn’t actually want the Lopez Group.
She was just kicking the ball back into her father’s court, forcing him to make the choice.
She knew him too well. The man was shameless. If she just flat–out refused, he’d cling to her like a
leech.
The situation with the Bennett family was already complicated enough; she simply didn’t have the energy to deal with him.
So, she’d let him go home and stew over it for a few days.

After that, he definitely wouldn’t have time to bother her anymore.
“Do you really have to be so heartless? Without the Lopez Group, how am I supposed to live?”
“Why don’t you ask your next wife that?”
“The bride price alone is three hundred million. Won’t raising a child cost even more?”
“Give them an inch and they’ll take a mile. You give them three hundred million now, and what’s to stop them from demanding more later? Where will you get the money then?”
“I’m actually helping you. Sell the company, get the money, but don’t give it to them all at once. Give it to them bit by bit, and they’ll be more than happy to have a baby for you.”
Oliver didn’t listen to a word of Autumn’s advice.
“I have my ways of handling that. I just need to know if you’re willing to help me get this money or not.”
Autumn took a deep breath. “I’m not.”
Oliver repeated the word “Fine” twice.
“I know you think you’ve got wings now, but I’m telling you, Autumn Lopez, a day will come when you’ll regret this.”
With that, he stormed out.
Autumn sighed, then, with a blank expression, she sent the audio recording she had just saved on her phone with a single tap.
Her father wanted a son to show off, didn’t he?
