Mars Wright never expected Owen Bennett to shut him down so completely.
Rage burned in his chest, but he couldn’t find a single word to retort.
Owen was right.
After betraying and hurting Autumn Lopez like that, what right did he have to think she’d still stand
by his side and help him?
Especially now that she was with Owen.
He was a man, too. He knew perfectly well that no man wanted to see his fiancée entangled with
her ex.
But Mars had no other choice.
He was at the end of his rope, and making this call was his last resort.
He was just clinging to his last shred of hope, thinking he could leverage their old relationship to beg for a little pity.
But he never imagined he wouldn’t even get the chance to speak with her.
Owen had blocked his path, and Mars knew he would never be able to contact Autumn Lopez again
in this lifetime.
Maybe Autumn didn’t want anything to do with him anymore either.
He should have known. Autumn was the kind of person who had zero tolerance for betrayal.
“Can you just let me say one thing to Autumn?”
Mars knew how unreasonable the request was.
But he was desperate to hear her voice one more time.
And he wanted to personally tell her he was sorry.
Only now did Mars realize what he had thrown away for Lydia Lopez.
He could have had a wonderful family, and his company would have grown more and more successful.

Chapter 314
Instead, it was all destroyed by his own greed and poor judgment.
Mars couldn’t accept it.
He desperately wanted to talk to someone who knew their past, to reminisce about the old days.
Autumn was the perfect person.
And what if?
Mars even held on to that faint hope. What if, after hearing about his current situation, Autumn was willing to throw him a little pity?
“Mars, it seems you don’t know when to quit.”
Owen’s patience had its limits.
He could understand why Mars, cornered and desperate, would think of Autumn.
But he would not tolerate Mars provoking him again and again.
“The only reason I haven’t dealt with you myself is because I didn’t think I had to. Otherwise, do you really think your last days of freedom would be this easy?”
“Don’t contact Autumn again. She doesn’t want to see you. Your very existence is just an unstable factor that will upset her.”
“If anything happens to her or the baby in her belly, I swear, I’ll come after you even if you’re behind
bars.”
With that, Owen hung up.
Listening to the dial tone, terror flooded Mars’s eyes.
“No! Don’t hang up!”
“Owen Bennett!”
“Owen, don’t hang up!”
Mars screamed frantically into the phone.
But it was useless.
Chapter 314
The phone had been disconnected, and the officer took the mobile from his hand.
“Save your breath. The call’s over,” the officer said. “You’ll just have to wait for legal aid.”
“But we’re short on lawyers, so it won’t be right away. Don’t get anxious.”
“Your turn will come.”
Mars felt even more frantic.
He didn’t trust these people to begin with, and now, hearing he had to wait in line, his future seemed utterly bleak. He couldn’t see a single way out.
“Can I please make one more call?”
“I promise this is the last one, and this person will definitely help me, I’m begging you!”
Mars clung to this last straw, on the verge of dropping to his knees and pleading with the officer. But the rules were the rules, and the officer was unmoved.
“You should go back and wait for news.”
Mars’s expression changed drastically.
“No, I don’t want to go back and wait! Just let me make one more call, I swear they’ll really come
and save me!”
The officer was left speechless.
“Seriously? Do you even realize why you’re in here?”
“Why would anyone save you? Don’t you know what you did?”
That one sentence pried open a corner of the bloody memory Mars refused to revisit.
More and more images flooded his mind, and Mars didn’t dare look at the savage figure within
them.
“That wasn’t me…”
“I couldn’t have done something like that.”
“That really wasn’t me…”
Chapter 314
“I was framed, I really was… Someone must have been controlling me back then, yes, someone was controlling me!”
He yelled, trying to prove he’d gone insane from the shock.
But the Canton Police Station wasn’t about to let him get away with it. They immediately brought in
an expert.
“He’s faking it.”
The expert came to a conclusion after a single glance at Mars.
“Someone who’s truly had a psychotic break wouldn’t have such clear eyes. He keeps glancing towards the door, which means he’s expecting someone to come and rescue him.”
“Take him back. We see guys like this all the time. They don’t feel any remorse when they’re committing the crime, but now they want to repent. A little late for that, don’t you think?”
Mars bit his own arm, not daring to say another word.
He never thought his act of playing crazy would be so useless.
Despair was a giant stone, slamming into his chest again and again.
What now…
Was he really going to be locked away in this dark place for the rest of his life…
Autumn woke up from her nap feeling an unprecedented sense of peace and contentment.
“That was a good sleep.”
Autumn rubbed her belly. Noticing Owen wasn’t in the hospital room, she was about to get out of bed to find him when he pushed the door open and walked in.
“You’re awake?”
Autumn smiled and asked where he had been.
Owen said he had gone to take care of something.
Autumn raised an eyebrow, keenly sensing that Owen seemed a little unhappy.

Chapter 314
“What’s wrong?”
Owen didn’t hide it and told her about Mars calling to ask for help.
“He actually dared to call?”
Autumn was stunned. “Seriously? On what grounds?”
What kind of person did he think she was?
Did Mars dare to even remember the disgusting things he’d done in the past?
The only reason Autumn hadn’t personally stabbed him was because she had morals, a bottom line, and respected the law. What right did he have to come to her for help?
Where did he get that kind of nerve?
“That’s what I asked him. But he seems to think you two still have feelings for each other, that you couldn’t possibly let go of all those years, so you would definitely help him.”
Autumn: “?”
“Mars is definitely doing this just to make me sick.”
Autumn patted her chest as a wave of nausea washed over her again.
“Autumn, are you okay?”
Seeing that Autumn was about to throw up, Owen rushed over without a second thought, ready to catch it with his bare hands.
Autumn was stunned for a second, but she reacted quickly, pushing him away as she fought down the urge. “Get a basin,” she said in a low voice.
Owen had been about to say it was fine, just let it out, but seeing her struggle, he rushed to grab a
basin for her.
Autumn immediately gagged with a retch, but nothing came up.
Owen’s heart ached as he gently patted her back. “This is all my fault. I shouldn’t have told you about this.”
Autumn waved her hand. “It’s fine. What else did Mars say?”

Well, ali tauy
I didn’t want a repeat performance later.
“He didn’t say much. Just that he wanted to hear your voice, and I shut that down.”
“I honestly don’t know where he gets the nerve.”
“Does he think I’m invisible or something?”
Seeing Autumn felt a little better, Owen put the basin back under the bed and opened a bottle of water for her. “Here, drink some. It’ll help.”
Autumn obediently took a couple of sips. Once she had a free hand, she gave Owen a thumbs–up.
“That’s my husband, a total badass!”
Owen straightened his back, playing along. “Of course I am.”
“You have no idea. He just kept provoking me.”
“Going on and on about the ‘years of history‘ you two have. Like I don’t know how long you were together?”
“But so what? He’s the one who threw it all away, wasn’t he?”
“I really don’t get how he can be so shameless.”
“Then again, I guess it makes sense.”
Owen kept rambling on, trying to distract Autumn from her nausea.
“If he had any sense of shame, he wouldn’t have brought a knife to the hospital in the first plac
“Pfft-”
Autumn burst out laughing.
“That is a seriously dark joke.”
Seeing the color return to Autumn’s face, Owen’s expression relaxed.
“What’s so dark about it? Am I not telling the truth?”
Mars Wright was a scumbag who couldn’t own up to his actions.
If he ever considered anyone but himself, he never would have done something like that.
He gets violent on an impulse, and now he says he regrets it? Who was going to believe him?
A dangerous individual like him belonged in prison. That was the best possible outcome.
Otherwise, if he were out there running free, Owen would worry that the psycho would turn around and come after Autumn for revenge.
After all, in Mars’s mind, the mess he was in was partly Autumn’s fault.
If Autumn hadn’t exposed his cheating back then, his life wouldn’t have gone down the drain.
Of course, Autumn had only done the right thing.
But a sane person can’t predict a madman’s actions.
A treacherous, deadbeat scumbag like Mars… if he truly snapped, there was no telling what he’d be
capable of.
“I’ll have someone keep an eye on him.”
Owen considered Mars a threat.
Even though Mars probably wouldn’t get away with it this time, there was nothing wrong with beir
prepared.
“Okay.”
Autumn sighed. “It feels like so much has been happening lately.”
On one hand, there was the possibility of Robert Williams and his nephew coming back to get revenge on the Bennett family. On the other, there was the disaster Mars had created.
Even though Autumn wasn’t directly involved with these people or events, she was still tangled them one way or another.
So she was forced to share the headache.
“Once things settle down, I’ll have Mom take you on a trip.”
Mrs. Bennett had spent years traveling the world with Mr. Bennett, so she knew all the best pla

to relax and unwind.
Pregnant women needed to stay calm, and staying here right now wasn’t exactly safe.
“Okay.”
Autumn thought about how once she got closer to her due date, she’d have to be on standby constantly, with no time to go anywhere.
She might as well take a trip now, while she could still get around easily, to relax and see some new sights.
Come to think of it, back when she was desperately trying to secure sponsorships and investments for Cloudbreak Corporation, she’d saved up all her vacation days and never took a single one.
The chance to finally take a break sparked a little flicker of anticipation in her heart.
“You think your mom will be okay with it?”
Autumn worried that as an elder, Mrs. Bennett’s first thought would be about her pregnancy.
After all, if some emergency came up while they were away, it would be much harder to handle than
it would be here.
“Why wouldn’t she be? She’d probably love to whisk you away.”
Autumn shot Owen a look.
“You’re just talking nonsense.”
“Whether I’m talking nonsense or not, you’ll see for yourself soon enough.”
Owen was completely serious. He knew exactly what kind of person his mother was.
Most people would assume that as his mother, Mrs. Bennett would naturally favor her own son, but she was a unique case.
Between her son and her daughter–in–law, she would always side with her daughter–in–law.
It was just a shame that for over twenty years, she’d had all this favoritism to give and nowhere to
direct it.
Now that she finally had a target, there was no way she’d let the opportunity go.
3/
“When can we go home?”
Autumn decided not to argue with Owen about his mother anymore.
As long as she got to go on a trip, that was all that mattered. The rest was irrelevant.
“Let’s give it another two days of observation.”
“I have to head to the office soon. I’ll have Grace and Ella come keep you company.”
Autumn nodded. “Okay, you should get going then.”
Owen planted a kiss on Autumn’s forehead. “I’ll come see you again after I’m done with work.”
“You don’t have to rush back. If it gets too late, just go home and rest. I’ll have people here looking
after me.”
Owen’s tone was firm. “Nope. I’m coming to stay with you.”
Autumn had no choice but to agree.
Only then did Owen smile. “Call me if you need anything.”
“Okay.”
After watching Owen leave, Autumn chatted for a bit with Grace and Ella, who had just come in. Then, a knock sounded on the hospital room door.
“Who is it?”
“It’s me.”
The voice from outside the door belonged to her father, Oliver Lopez.
Autumn was a bit surprised.
Her father was certainly a rare visitor.
“Should we get rid of him?”
Grace asked softly, noticing the change in Autumn’s expression.
Autumn thought for a moment, then shook her head. “No, it’s fine. Let him in.”
Grace quickly ushered him into the room.
Chapter 315
Oliver wore a stern expression, clearly resentful that Autumn hadn’t opened the door for him herself.
“What are you doing checked into a hospital? You can’t just get cocky because you’re carrying Owen Bennett’s child. Do you have any idea what kind of family the Bennetts are? Do you think they’ll tolerate you acting spoiled and arrogant?”
Autumn had thought her father was there to try and butter her up, but he’d opened his mouth only
to criticize her.
Autumn laughed. “I don’t see how that has anything to do with you.”
“Autumn Lopez, is that any way to speak to your father?”
“Oh, so you remember you’re my father now? I was starting to think I was an orphan.”
“You!”
Her father was fuming.
“Fine, fine. I get it. Your wings have grown in, and now you don’t even have any respect for me.”
“I won’t beat around the bush. Since you’re marrying into the Bennett family, you should be thinking of ways to get something out of it for our Lopez family.”
“I’m not even talking about how big of a dowry Owen should give for marrying you, but there has to be some show of good faith, right?”
Autumn scoffed. “And here I thought you were lying low all this time because you’d finally realized I want nothing more to do with the Lopez family. But I guess after all this time, you still can’t admit that whatever father–daughter bond we had was completely destroyed by you favoring Lydia over and over again?”
Her father felt a deep sense of humiliation at her words.
“I’m your father! Families don’t hold grudges like this. Lydia’s life is basically ruined now, but you’re still a daughter of the Lopez family.”
“Autumn, I’m not asking for much. Just talk to Owen. Tell him to make the dowry an even three billion dollars. What do you think?”
Chapter 316
“Why don’t you just go rob a bank?”
Autumn Lopez shot back without mercy. “You think Owen Bennett’s family has a money printing machine?”
“Besides, even if he was willing to pay a bride price, it would be for me. What does that have to do with you?”
“How do you have the nerve to even ask?”
Being called out so bluntly, Oliver Lopez looked mortified.
With his temper, he would normally explode in anger.
Autumn was already prepared to call Grace and the others in.
But unexpectedly, Oliver completely dropped his usual hot–tempered attitude, let out a couple of awkward laughs, and looked at Autumn with a fawning expression. “Autumn, I didn’t have a choice.”
“I can’t touch the Lopez Group’s liquid assets, and I already sold off my private property to help you scrape together the money for the shares. I gave all of it to you. Now that I’m Mr. Lopez, I have to keep up appearances. I can’t be going out to dinner and asking other people to pay, can I?”
Autumn keenly sensed something was off.
But she didn’t let it show, instead playing along to get the real story. “But you wouldn’t need four hundred million dollars for that, would you?”
Hearing this, Oliver thought he had a shot, and his expression grew even more sycophantic. “Well, it’s just that I’ve been looking at a few properties, you know? And a couple of investment opportunities.”
“The Lopez Group makes its money, sure, but I’d like to build up more of my own personal assets.”
