The Don's Orphan Wife Is A Mafia Empire Princess (Elara) novel Chapter 22

Chapter 11 Adding Fuel to the Fire

In the hospital’s VIP ward, William Miller lay in bed, his face pale, beads of sweat dotting his forehead.

He wasn’t fully asleep; his consciousness wavered between consciousness and delirium because of the high fever. Whenever he regained some awareness, he’d look around with listless eyes, as if searching for something.

Leah Foster sat by his bedside, gently wiping his face and forehead with a cold-dampened towel, hoping to bring down his fever.

Her eyes were filled with worry and tenderness, and her touch was so soft, afraid of disturbing the sick child. “William, does anything hurt? Tell Auntie, and I’ll make it better. The fever will go away soon. Be a good boy.”

She gently placed the folded towel on his forehead, her voice as gentle as silk, trying to comfort William Miller.

And William Miller slightly moved his eyelids, struggling to lift them. He looked at Leah Foster with hazy and weak eyes, as if he wanted to say something, but the high fever made his words indistinct.

“Auntie Leah… I… Mom…”

William Miller’s voice was as soft as a mosquito’s buzz, but it clearly reached Leah Foster’s ears.

Leah Foster, originally because his voice was too low, quickly leaned closer to hear William Miller’s words more clearly.

However, after hearing the words murmured from William Miller’s mouth, her face changed several times.

“Your mom…”

She said in a somewhat cold and hard tone, but when she heard the sound of the ward door opening behind her, she suddenly softened her voice.

“William, be a good boy. Your mom will be here soon. Just go to sleep obediently, okay? When she comes, Auntie Leah will definitely wake you up.”

Leah Foster said while gently patting William Miller, trying to make him feel at ease and fall asleep.

William Miller seemed to feel Leah Foster’s comfort. His eyelids gradually became heavy, and his eyes slowly lost

focus.

Under Leah Foster’s gentle patting, he slowly closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep again.

But this was just an appearance. Later, William Miller would wake up again due to the high fever.

When Ethan Miller returned to the ward, he saw Leah Foster carefully coaxing William Miller.

Compared with Evelyn Hart’s indifference on the phone just now, Leah Foster at this moment seemed to exude a

maternal aura all over.

This made Ethan Miller, who had been frowning tightly, look a little more relaxed.

“Thank you for your’ ‘d work. You’ve been staying with William and taking care of him. You’re a patient yourself,

after all.”

Leah Foster looked up, met Ethan Miller’s gaze, and a smile curved her lips.

“It doesn’t matter. This is what I should do. William is your child, and you are my…”

At this point, she paused slightly, as if searching for the right words. Her originally slightly pale cheeks were appropriately tinged with a blush.

“You are my good friend. So when you’re in trouble, of course I want to help you.”

Ethan Miller felt a warmth in his heart when he heard her words.

However, her shy and timid appearance was subconsciously ignored by him.

He turned his head to look at William Miller lying on the bed and frowned again.

“What’s William’s temperature now?”

Leah Foster quickly picked up the thermometer from the bedside cabinet. After taking a look, she replied, “I just took his temperature. It’s 38.5 degrees. Although it’s a little lower than before, it’s still quite high.”

Upon hearing this, Ethan Miller frowned even more.

“Why is it still so high? Didn’t we already give him antipyretics?”

As a doctor, he naturally knew that for a child, persistent high fever could lead to many complications and that they had to find a way to bring down the temperature as soon as possible.

That’s why he had asked the nurse to give William Miller the best antipyretics and arranged for physical cooling measures. But he didn’t expect that the effect wasn’t as good as expected.

It’s just that he had never taken care of William Miller when he was sick before, so he naturally didn’t know that William Miller’s constitution had a relatively slow reaction to drugs, especially antipyretics.

That’s why Evelyn Hart used to stay by his side day and night in the past.

He took a deep breath and tried to calm himself down.

“I’ll go find the nurse now and ask them to prepare new medicine. Please help me keep an eye on William for a while.”

Leah Foster nodded obediently.

“Ethan, between us, there’s no need to say thank you.”

Just as Ethan Miller was about to leave the ward, Leah Foster’s eyes lit up, and she suddenly let out an “Ah”.

“Ethan, when will Dr. Hart come?”

At the mention of Evelyn Hart’s name, Ethan Miller’s face darkened slightly.

“She said she won’t come.”

Won’t come?

Leah Foster was delighted in her heart but put on a puzzled expression on her face.

“Why? Didn’t you tell her that William has a serious high fever and really needs her here? Dr. Hart doesn’t seem like that kind of irresponsible mother.”

These words were like a knife, somehow hitting the weakest part of Ethan Miller’s heart, making his heart tighten and his face turn even more gloomy.

“I told her, but she still decided not to come.”

Ethan Miller’s voice was low and forceful, and every word seemed to carry a thousand pounds of emotion.

He tried to keep his tone calm, but the turmoil in his heart was hard to hide.

Leah Foster was always perceptive. Seeing this, she knew she had said the wrong thing.

Her eyes flickered,:

he bit her lower lip lightly, hesitating before speaking.

“Is it because of me? Dr. Hart angry with you and William and unwilling to come because I’m here?”

Leah Foster twitched the corners of her mouth and gave a bitter smile.

“It’s my fault. I overstepped the line. But anyway, she shouldn’t take William’s health as a way to vent her anger…”

Ethan Miller, who had been a little uneasy and felt that something was out of his control, was instantly filled with anger when he heard this.

His thin lips were tightly pursed, and his voice was cold.

“If she wants to act up, let her. I’m a doctor too. Just because William is sick doesn’t mean I can’t treat him. Leah, don’t blame yourself. This has nothing to do with you. Whether she comes or not, I’ll make sure William gets the best

treatment.”

After saying this, Ethan Miller left the ward.

As he walked out of the ward and was about to go to the nurse’s station, he received a call from Evelyn Hart.

On the phone, Evelyn Hart’s voice was as cold as before, but what she said made Ethan Miller slightly stunned.

“You should have already given William antipyretics, right? Did you find that they didn’t work?”

Ethan Miller’s hand holding the phone tightened.

“Evelyn Hart, what do you want to say?”

Evelyn Hart let out a meaningful laugh.

“It seems I guessed it right. Mr. Miller is really busy. Even when his own son is sick, he doesn’t know what treatment method to use. I’ll only say the following words once, and this is the last time. Ethan Miller, you’d better remember them firmly in your heart.”

Having taken care of William Miller for so long, she naturally knew his physical condition like the back of her hand and also knew what medicine would work the fastest when the high fever persisted.

She told Ethan Miller all the “experience” she had accumulated over the years.

Before hanging up the phone, she left a light sentence.

“I hope the next time you contact me, it’s to ask me to go to the City Clerk’s Office.”
