[Basic Soft Whip: Required materials: 1 piece of leather, I piece of wood. Do you want to craft it?]
Leeanne felt a flicker of disappointment. The weapon seemed pretty average.
But that was to be expected. They were still in the early game; everything was starter gear. As long as it worked, she was happy.
The real strength would come from upgrades anyway.
She tapped [Craft].
[Basic Soft Whip crafted successfully. Today’s fortune surge triggered: Basic Soft Whip upgraded to Intermediate Soft Whip!]
[Today’s fortune surge triggered: Intermediate Soft Whip upgraded to Advanced Soft Whip.]
After two consecutive upgrades, the glow faded, and a tightly coiled whip appeared on the crafting table.
Leeanne picked it up.
The handle was about eight inches long, wrapped in layered strips of cowhide. The whip itself stretched over six feet, braided leather woven tight and strong.
A deep, warm brown from end to end.
She gripped the handle and snapped it hard. A sharp crack split the air as the whip lashed out, striking a nearby wooden target and blasting off a spray of splinters.
‘Nice power. This’ll do just fine,’ Leeanne thought, feeling pretty satisfied.
Leeanne smiled. It would be even better if she knew proper form, but for now she’d practice and make it her own.
For now, she could only practice by herself, just winging it.
Danelle: [Leeanne, is the stew ready or what? I’m dying here.]
Danelle was officially starving.
Leeanne suddenly remembered she’d totally zoned out on serving Rodger and Danelle while she was busy crafting.
They’d sent their wooden bowls over ages ago and were probably hangry by now,
She quickly rescued the almost–overdone squid, scooped decent portions of beef and potato stew into howls for Danelle Rodger, and William, and finally filled her own stainless steel bowl.
As she ate, she kept half an eye on the local chat.
Camelia Cross: [Strength 7, Constitution 8, Agility 8. Looking to join a team. Skilled archer here.)
Myron: [Camelia, you got a bow? If you’ve got one, we’ve got room for you.)
Jocelyn Cross: [Myron, didn’t your team have that whole ‘no girls allowed‘ vibe going on?)

Myron: [We don’t take dead weight. Camelia’s a straight–up archery champion. You think you can touch that?]
Malcolm: [Hey, Camelia, I hear you’re not just lethal with arrows, you light up the dance floor too.

[How about this: shoot me a quick video of you dancing, and boom, you’re on our squad. We’ll even track down a bow for you. Deal?]
Jocelyn Cross: [That’s disgusting.]
Mick Garcia: [Jocelyn, we wouldn’t touch you with a ten–foot pole. Who’s the gross one now? Damn, Camelia, why’d you block me? Seriously?]
Myron: [Camelia, come on, you blocked me too? We were just talking perks and benefits. Add me back already.]
Camelia: [Nah, I’m good. I’m done looking for a team.]
Myron: [You sure about that? Most crews aren’t exactly begging for girls:]
Mick Garcia: [Bro, why waste breath? She’s turning down a golden ticket.
[Camelia, just wait. When the island hunt kicks off, you’re first on my list.]
Leeanne felt a jolt of excitement. “There she is.
Rodger slid into her DMs: [Didn’t expect Camelia to be in our district too. Hit her up, Leeanne. She’s the real deal with archery. She’ll have your back.]
Leeanne had already messaged her: [Teach me archery and I’ll hook you up with meat and eggs. Sound fair?]
Camelia: [You got a bow? Any chance I can buy it off you?]
Leeanne: [Sorry, I need it bad, and it’s not tradable anyway.]
The game hadn’t unlocked weapon trading yet. Players had to hunt down blueprints and materials and craft their own gear
from scratch.
Camelia’s reply came back flat: [I’ve got food. It’s basic, but I’m not picky. Long as my stomach’s full, I’m fine.]
Leeanne hesitated. ‘Is she brushing off the meat and eggs?‘
She switched tactics, keeping it light: [True, but meat, eggs, fruits, veggies, that’s how you stay strong out here. Keeps your immune system solid.
(And let’s be real, no protein means no energy to survive this island mess.]
Camelia went quiet for a minute.
Leeanne nudged again, easy and persuasive: [You’ve got downtime anyway. Train me, take the supplies, then go hunt bow blueprints from someone else. Everybody wins, right?
After a long beat, Camelia finally typed: (Alright I’ll coach you in archery for beef]
Leeanne sent over a solid three–pound chunk of beef, more than enough for a full day,
Camelia accepted and fired back: [That’s plenty. One chunk a day, and I’ll get you shooting straight.)

Leeanne grinned. “This girl’s solid. No haggling, no games. I figured she’d be a tough negotiator. She’s actually pretty chill:
With her luck still running hot, Leeanne decided to bank the training for tomorrow and set the plan with Camelia.
She closed the chat, hopped up, and rubbed her hands together. One chest still sat unopened, and her luck was clearly peaking. Perfect moment to pop it.
Out of nowhere, Myron’s laugh blasted across the public channel.
Myron Garcia: [Swapped for two apples, and get this, I ate one and my constitution jumped a whole point! Sitting at 16 now, baby!]
The channel blew up.
[Attributes can actually climb like that?]
[Same here, found a tiny island today, grabbed a red fruit. Ate it, constitution plus one.]
[So we can still level up early on?]
[Yeah, grind supplies, never skip an island. You might snag something huge!]
Someone grumbled: [That’s just two lucky people so far. The rest of us got squat.]
Myron Garcia: [I’ve still got the second apple. Might hit 17.]
Mick Garcia: [Our squad’s stacked. Good players, hit us up!]
Emmett: [Myron, you selling that apple?]
Myron: [Nope. Suffer in silence.]
A handful of players instantly started brown–nosing him, and Myron soaked it up, getting louder and more obnoxious.
Then he swung back to them: [Leeanne, Rodger, apologize right now and maybe I’ll let it go.]
