Seeing everyone about to revoke their votes, Myron got nervous. [Come on, don’t freak out. Leeanne hasn’t even told us what her entry is.
[Night’s End isn’t bad either. You already voted, so why bother changing it? It’s just extra trouble…]
Mick chimed in: [Yeah, Leeanne, why are you being so touchy? You won’t even say what your work is, so what’s the big deal if people vote for Night’s End?]
Danelle shot back: [Myron, Mick, why are you guys defending Night’s End? Are you friends with the author or something?]
Myron quickly denied it. [How would I know him? He’s not even from our district.]
Rodger pressed: [How do you know he’s not from our district? Have you talked to him?]
Myron started to panic. [Come on, that’s ridiculous! I just think Leeanne is being way too sensitive. People can vote for whoever they want, right?]
Leeanne let out a cold laugh. [Go ahead, vote for whoever you want, but don’t take advantage of me!]
Seeing that Leeanne was really upset, everyone in District 33 finally believed Night’s End wasn’t hers. So, they all started scrambling to change their votes.
Leeanne and Robin were only about ten thousand votes apart. In less than fifteen minutes, Leeanne climbed back to first place, while Robin’s Night’s End slipped to second.
Robin had been keeping a close eye on his ranking. When he saw there were only thirty minutes left in the voting and he was more than ten thousand votes ahead of Leeanne, he finally let out a sigh of relief.
Smugly, Robin sent a private message to Alina. [See? I’m number one! Told you I didn’t need your help, I can take the top spot all by myself.]
Alina frowned, her suspicion clear. [What did you do?]
Thinking the outcome was already set, Robin started acting bold. [What did I do? Obviously, I just took advantage of the situation!]
Alina’s expression turned icy, her words laced with mockery. [Yeah, what else could you do? You’ve got nothing, so you just shamelessly ride on other people’s influence.
[I wonder if your parents are looking down on you. Guess their early death ended up being an advantage for you, huh?]
Robin snapped: [Alina!]
That was hitting below the belt, and instead of feeling any guilt, Robin’s blood was boiling. So you really don’t give a damn about your own family, do you?]
Alina stared at Robin sitting firmly at the top, her heart in turmoil.
She wondered, ‘Is Robin really going to end up first?
‘Damn it, the heavens are so unfair!‘
Robin’s parents died when he was just a kid, so he’d been on his own since he was seven. He’d seen it all, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Chapter 72
Alina’s father was a friend of Robin’s parents.
It wasn’t until Robin was eighteen that Alina’s parents finally tracked him down.

When they saw how miserable their old friend’s son had become, they felt a deep sense of guilt for taking so long to find him.
By the time they found Robin, he’d just gotten himself into a mess. He was starving, freezing, badly injured, and barely hanging on to life.
To make up for it, they helped Robin out of trouble, took him in, nursed him back to health, and then brought him into heir company, giving him special attention and training.
Robin was too old to go back to school, but he taught himself a ton. Alina’s parents grew more impressed by him.
Even so, they’d warned Alina that Robin was calculating and a bit too ruthless, not exactly the kind–hearted type. She’d better keep her distance.
It was okay to help him out, but going overboard was out of the question.
After Alina’s parents saw through Robin, they still looked out for him, but had him move out and slowly started to distance
hemselves.
Robin realized what was going on and started visiting all the time. Eventually, Alina’s parents felt guilty and let him drop by every so often.
Sometimes, when the whole Spangler family had a gathering, Robin would turn up as well. He was great at networking and secretly built connections with a bunch of the younger Spangler kids.
During this Survival on the Seas event, Robin, Alina, and her two cousins, Spike Spangler and Ellery Spangler, all ended up in District 34 together.
As soon as they got there, Robin revealed he had some overpowering skill and tried to rope Alina and her cousins into an alliance.
Alina knew exactly what kind of guy he was and shot him down right away. But her cousins ignored her warnings and got totally played by Robin.
They gathered supplies for him, risked their necks, and followed him onto the island. In the end, they got burned. One ended up seriously injured, the other disabled.
Now they were both in a miserable state, relying on Alina just to survive.
But during the survival trials a few days ago, Robin helped many people in District 34 make it through the hardships, earning himself a lot of goodwill.
Many saw him as their benefactor.
Spike and Ellery, however, were nothing but stepping stones to him. One was left gravely injured, the other crippled, both utterly miserable.
Alina had long since come to loathe Robin.
She wished she could kill that cruel, heartless, and treacherous scoundrel with her own hands.
That was why she’d pulled out all the stops to rally votes for Leeanne, hoping Leeanne would finally take Robin down a peg,

But now, it looked like she’d lost.
Alina’s face was the picture of defeat, and she didn’t say a word.
Robin had been bragging nonstop, but suddenly, he stopped in his tracks.

While Alina was still confused, her cousin Spike suddenly called out, “Alina, look. Gathering by Stove is back at number one!”
Alina hurried to check, and sure enough, Gathering by Stove had climbed back to the top spot.
Looking closer, she saw that Night’s End’s votes had plummeted.
‘What the heck just happened?‘ Alina wondered, her mind reeling.
Robin was just as confused. Since he couldn’t reach Myron, he had no choice but to check the comments section of his own
entry.
People were tearing into him, and his followers were totally losing control.
A person wrote: [What kind of shameless loser are you? Posing as Leeanne from our district? You scumbag!]
Another wrote: [You thought you could trick me into voting for you? Just wait, you’re gonna get what’s coming to you!]
Someone wrote: [Guys, he’s dropped to second place. Let’s all vote for the third place and knock him out of the rankings!]
Someone else wrote: [Yeah, let’s knock him out. He thought he could pull a fast one, but now he’s losing even more. We can only switch our votes now, so let’s make sure he gets pushed down!]
A person wrote: [He’s dropped to third place. Come on, everyone, let’s keep voting for fourth place and push him even lower!]
Another wrote: [Yeah, don’t waste your votes, guys. Keep an eye on the numbers and make sure we’re doing this right!]
