As soon as the announcement dropped, every district was buzzing with gossip. In the District 33’s Local Chat.
A person wrote: [Looks like things are pretty fair this time. The top ten has folks from Districts 31, 32, 35… almost every district made it, except us in 33.]
Another wrote: [Not just us. Districts 33, 34, and 39 all got left out of the top ten.]
Someone wrote: [Wait, hold on. The first, fourth, and tenth places are all anonymous, with their district and name hidden. Maybe those spots actually belong to people from our districts?]
Someone else wrote: [What about Leeanne? Did she even join? If she did, there’s no way she wouldn’t make the top ten!]
A person wrote: [Yeah, I checked out all the top ten entries. Aside from the first place, ‘Gathering by the Fire,‘ none of them even come close to Leeanne.
[Her spread of grilled skewers totally blows the rest out of the water.]
Another wrote: [Man, I’m so jealous of whoever created ‘Gathering by the Fire. Five pieces of Top land? That’s the dream life right there!]
Someone wrote: [Honestly, I’d be happy with just one plot. I’d plant wild greens all over it!]
Someone else wrote: [I’d settle for even less, just give me a regular patch of land. I’ve been living off bread every day. I’m so sick of it. If someone handed me a leafy veggie right now, I’d just devour it raw!]
A person wrote: [Man, which district is the winner from anyway? How do they get to live such an awesome life?]
Leeanne closed the chat window, choosing to stay out of the spotlight and keep her accomplishments to herself.
Since she could still claim her rewards without exposing her identity, she decided to take the Survival System’s advice and seep a low profile this time.
Over in the District 34 chat, not a single person brought up the rankings. Instead, everyone was busy with pointless chatter, ike they all silently agreed to avoid the topic.
But Alina wasn’t about to let this opportunity slip away.
Alina wrote: [Thanks so much to everyone who voted. My sister’s entry snagged first place, Really appreciate it!]
This time, she spoke with real conviction.
After all, Danelle was actually a part of this entry.
People chimed in. [Of course, Alina! Your sister’s really impressive!]
A person wrote: [Alina’s a Spangler. Everyone in the Spangler family is awesome. Congrats, Alina!]
But there were also people who didn’t get along with Robin, and they started throwing shade.
A person wrote: [How did Robin’s work drop all the way to eleventh place? What a shame. Eleventh place doesn’t get a single reward!]
Another wrote: [Yeah, wasn’t he in first place? How did he end up in eleventh after just an hour or two?l

Someone wrote: [Didn’t Robin even use wood to buy votes? Five pieces of wood for one vote, ten for another, he must’ve lost his shirt over this!]
Someone else wrote: [Hey Robin, where’s my ten wood? You said you’d pay wood for votes, so don’t ghost me now!]
A person wrote: [Robin, you still owe me five wood, so when are you handing it over?]
Robin’s face twisted with rage. In just a few minutes, he’d dropped from tenth place to eleventh, before he even knew what hit him.
He was scrambling to buy votes during that time.
A bunch of people who’d voted for him were now dropping hints or outright demanding their wood.
He did the math. It was possible that some folks had pulled their votes and switched sides. His inbox was blowing up with at least a thousand people coming after him.
Ten wood each would be a whopping ten thousand wood.
There was no way he could get that much wood.
He thought, ‘Have I totally lost my head in those last few minutes? Blinded by desperation, I actually tried to buy votes and ended up throwing all my hard work down the drain!‘
He couldn’t even hold onto tenth place.
All of his efforts turned out to be pointless.
He didn’t just come up empty–handed. He even ended up in debt.
Staring at the flood of private messages, all from people hounding him for their wood, Robin was at his wits‘ end.
He was so miserable that he wished the ground would just swallow him up.
Alina was on cloud nine.
But there was another reason why she was feeling so pumped.
She’d finally managed to get in touch with Danelle.
Even though they only had about three minutes to chat in the comments, and the replies were all over the place, she still got the gist of what was up with Danelle and her crew.
Danelle was doing great. Rodger was doing awesome too. The two of them had a friend who was just ridiculously awesome!
Meanwhile, Leeanne yawned, ready to hit the sack.
[Your entry, “Gathering by Stove,” has won first place in the fourth division of the Quality of Life Contest. Your rewards have been distributed. Please check your backpack.

Leeanne was thrilled. Not only did she snag first place in the contest, but she’d also wrapped up the quest.
She’d had her eye on those two rare plots from the start.

Leeanne perked right up, suddenly wide awake. She quickly set the two Rare plots right next to her original one, not wanting to waste a single moment.
These Rare plots could make plants grow twenty times faster. Losing just one night would be like throwing away ten days. No way was Leeanne going to let that happen.
She thought for a second, then grabbed some peanuts and sunflower seeds from her stash. One plot got peanuts, the other got sunflowers.
[Peanuts: Annual plant. The seeds can be pressed for oil or just munched as snacks. Usual growth time: 120 days. With the speed boost: 6 days!]
[Sunflowers: Seeds can be pressed for oil or snacked on. Usual growth time: 120 days. With the speed boost: 6 days.]
Leeanne thought, ‘Sweet. Peanuts and sunflower seeds usually take four months to ripen, but now, with these rare plots, I’ll have a harvest in just six days. That’s insane!‘
Soon, she’d have all kinds of flavored sunflower seeds and peanuts to snack on.
Most importantly, she could make oil.
She could finally make her own sunflower oil and peanut oil.
Edible oil was seriously hard to come by. She couldn’t just count on random drops or loot boxes for it. But now that she could press her own, Leeanne knew she’d never have to stress about running out of oil again.
With all that oil, she could fry up meatballs, fried chicken, and all sorts of tasty treats.
This is gonna be so delicious!‘ Leeanne thought.
Leeanne was literally drooling as she planted her sunflower seeds and peanuts, already dreaming about all the tasty snacks she’d soon be able to whip up.
