Chapter 105

Hayley decided to make Cloudia exempt from taxes as her form of salary. That way, Hayley wouldn’t be considered taking advantage of a kid.

In times when resources were scarce, everyone had to pull their weight.

In her last life, back at that tiny base she used to live in, kids were treated like adults, and adults were treated like slaves. There was no such thing as protecting children or the elderly. If you couldn’t work, the base would kickyou out without hesitation.

No one wanted dead weight. Even kids had to earn their keep.

Honestly, if the people from other bases saw how organized everyone at Haylight Base was, they would fight each other just to get in.

Most other settlements were already a mess. Refugees kept pouring in, food was scarce, and resources were stretched thin. People couldn’t even find a way to survive, let alone eat properly.

But here, even kids had jobs to do and earned points for it. This place was like a paradise, a real haven in the middle of hell.

Under Hayley’s management, the land around the villa district had been cultivated. Fast-growing and high- yielding crops like potatoes and sweet potatoes were already in the ground. Everyone was finally taking part in productive work, and the base was running smoothly for the first time.

The prosperity level of Haylight Base shot up by 30 levels.

The rural village was starting to look like a real community.

Once the crops were harvested and everyone had resources in hand, the base prosperity level would only keep rising.

After two full days of organizing and managing everything, Hayley could finally breathe a little. However, she also realized something important: she was desperately short on manpower.

Leonard alone just wasn’t enough.

He could barely keep up with maintaining the shelter. Every day, he had to wake up an hour earlier to clean inside and outside, tend to the vegetable patch, and check on the fruit trees that were starting to bear fruit.

On top of that, he still had to cook, clean, and take care of the entire shelter. And whenever Hayley needed something done in the residential area, he had to run over there, too.

Even a farm mule wouldn’t work as hard as he did.

Thankfully, the new radar and drone systems helped a lot. Whenever zombies wandered too close, the drones handled them automatically.

Otherwise, with just the two of them, they would never keep up.

Then suddenly, a voice echoed in Hayley’s mind.

Ding!

Hayley’s eyes widened.

Talk about perfect timing!

The system was the best support she could ever ask for. It didn’t give missions often, but when it did, they came with great rewards.

“Leonard, gear up. We’re heading out!”

“Got it, Boss!”

Leonard, who had been washing dishes, quickly rinsed his hands, grabbed his gear, and stood at attention withou

hesitation.

When Hayley gave an order, he didn’t ask questions. He just followed.

Hayley uploaded the map into her armored truck, brought eight of her dogs along, and left Summer and the other seven to guard the shelter.

Their destination was the United Pharma Research Facility in West Aecraton, located near the border between Aecraton, Brookville, and Crestford.
