Chapter 129
Chapter 178
As soon as Liam mentioned it Hayley knew exactly what he meant
A radio? Of course, she had one!
Her house was full of electronics that could be converted into a radio station. She just never had a reason to use them before.
“Give me your radio frequency.”
It was 6:30 PM.
Night had just fallen, and Hayley returned safely.
As soon as she got back to her base, she headed straight to the shelter.
The routine of cooking and feeding the dogs and chickens got handed back to Leonard.
Hayley had a bigger mission now.
Rubbing her excited hands together, she moved forward to claim her huge reward for the day.
Ding! [Base HQ detected. Unlock AI butler?]
“Yes!”
She absolutely must unlock it!
With that, a holographic supercomputer appeared in the empty space of the bunker’s second floor.
Hayley walked up and pressed the power button. Lights flickered/on, and a miniature holographic version of herself emerged on
the screen.
Step by step, the image became clearer. Three seconds later, it opened its eyes and looked at her.
“Hello, Ms. Reid. Please give me a name.”
Hayley smiled, satisfied with the electronic figure in front of her. “I’ll call you Hayz.”
“Okay, Ms. Reid. I will serve you immediately.”
Hayz’s cold, mechanical voice rang out. At once, all devices on the bunker’s second floor beeped. The power indicators flashed, connecting everything together.
“Ms. Reid, I am now linked to every electronic device in the base. I will supervise and manage everything in the base at all times.
”
Hayley was thrilled.
Hayz might be just a digital administrator with no physical form, but in reality, it was about to become the strongest, most fundamental manager of Hayley’s base.
All the cameras in the base were Hayz’s eyes. The radar system was its sensory network, and the scouting drones patrolling outside were its weapons. Every single device in the base became its extension
Hayley no longer had to deal with every little task herself.
For example, if the radar detected an intruder, Hayz would immediately dispatch a drone to the scene. No repeated reports to Hayley were needed. Hayz would drive off the intruder, and if that failed, it would engage in combat.

If danger threatened the drones, they could retreat intelligently without waiting for Hayley’s orders, so they wouldn’t be destroyed unnecessarily.
In short, the entire base’s offense and defense now had a central brain.
Hayley could leave the base without worrying that no one was keeping watch over it. Hayz was her eyes and hands, taking care of the base.
Even daily chores for residents could be handled by Hayz.
Tasks that had once kept Hayley busy, like points tracking, item exchanges, and production management, could now be handled directly by Hayz if a computer was installed in the residential area.
Cloudia wouldn’t have to run errands every day anymore.
People need sleep, but machines don’t.
Even while Hayley rested, Hayz could manage the base 24/7.
Hayley now had the most complete, comprehensive base manager possible, and it would never betray her. 1
“Good. Hayz, from now on, you’ll take care of everything in the base and oversee Haylight Base at all times!”
“Got it, Ms. Reid!”
Hayz spun once in front of Hayley and then disappeared into the holographic screen.
Hayley was already thinking about giving Hayz more tasks to expand its responsibilities.
The next day, Hayley and Leonard delivered a cart full of supplies to the residential area.
The residents working there saw them and waved enthusiastically.
“Morning, Ms. Reid!”
“Ms. Reid, you’re here!”

Chapter 179
Hayley greeted her 19 residents and parked at an empty villa.
At that moment, Cloudia bounced over. “Ms. Reid! You’re here! I was just about to come find you.”
“Find me for what?”
“To exchange supplies! There’s so much!” Cloudia said in her soft, high-pitched voice.
She held out a piece of paper. It was packed with a detailed list.
Cloudia grinned at Hayley. “By the way, Ms. Reid, when are you going to open another market? Your last market was so much fun! I’ve been waiting forever. I really want to buy more of your treats!”
Hayley smiled and tugged gently at the little girl’s pigtails. “From now on, whenever you want something, you can just get it.”
She waved, and Leonard got down from the truck. It was the same delivery truck she had seized on the highway last time.
Leonard started unloading immediately, and the residents nearby rushed over to help.
“Ms. Reid, what is this?”
“What’s all this?”
“This is our very own Haylight Base store!” Hayley announced.
Everyone froze.
Half an hour later, a pre-apocalypse-style supermarket appeared before them. The shelves were stocked with all sorts of food.
It felt like stepping back in time. They could shop like it was before the apocalypse!
At the center of the store was a giant electronic screen showing all the items and prices, along with a virtual Hayley.
“This is our Haylight Base supermarket. This is Hayz, your base manager.
“From now on, if you want anything, just come here. No cards needed. Hayz will recognize you and automatically deduct your account balance for whatever you take.
“Of course, if you want to exchange items, put them on the shelf to the right. There’s a digital scale, and Hayz will automatically
calculate your balance.
“If you want to double-check, there’s a card scanner at the entrance and another at the exit to review your balance.”
“Wow! I want to try it!” Cloudia said excitedly.
Hayley glanced at her. “Go ahead.”
Cloudia ran to the candy shelf, grabbed a lollipop, peeled it, and happily started eating.
Anthony and Kate pulled out Cloudia’s card to check. With a beep, the scanner confirmed a balance of 99.5 points.
Cloudia had started with 100 points, which was a stipend for Anthony’s family for their help with farm work, along with Cloudia’s pay. The lollipop she bought cost o 5 points, leaving her with 99.5
The couple felt happy and a little sad.
They were happy because their daughter could enjoy a simple pre apocalypse treat
Outside, the world had fallen apart. Zombies roamed the streets, and people struggled just to find food. Yet inside their base. Cloudia could sit there with a lollipop in her hand
Chapter 129
That alone spoke volumes about how secure and well-supplied the base was.
But they also felt a little pained. One point could buy a pound of pasta, and their daughter had spent half a point on a single lollipop. That was way too expensive!
They made a silent note to keep an eye on Cloudia’s spending to make sure she didn’t blow all the points.
“Ms. Reid, I want to exchange some supplies,” Julian said. “I’ve grown bean sprouts over the past few days. Can they be traded?”
“Of course.” Hayley nodded.
Julian ran back, grabbed five pounds of sprouts, and weighed them.
The store immediately chimed.
Ding! [Five pounds of sprouts detected. Exchange value: 2.5 points. Proceed with trade?]
“Trade!”
Vegetables were worth half as much as grains.
After completing the exchange, Julian checked his account and saw 2.5 points added to his balance.
Everyone cheered with excitement.
They flooded into the store; some to shop, some to trade, some simply to look around.
