Chapter 134

But what made Griffin famous wasn’t just his strange ability; it was the outrageous messes he caused everywhere he went

He was cunning, greedy, and unpredictable. His favorite pastime was bettaying people

Using his unique gift, he drifted between different bases, never staying too long.

Once he got a feel for a place, he would move on. If the previous base was weak, he would sell their information to a stronger one and come back to help destroy it. If the next base was weaker, he would double back and tip off the first one to attack.

People used to say that in the apocalypse, zombies weren’t the only threat. The real danger came from humans.

And Griffin, the boss-level troublemaker, single-handedly brought down several small settlements and even one mid-sized

base.

After each collapse, he walked away with half their supplies. He would indulge Himself for a while, then move on to his next target.

You’d think a guy like him would be living it up in zombie-infested cities, taking whatever the wanted, but no. Griffin had zero self-control and no sense of higher purpose.

While most people stayed away from vices, he dove headfirst into them. He would blow his stolen money and resources on gambling and women, too restless to live alone for even a day.

He fooled people for a living. That was all he ever did.

Hayley’s old base had been on his radar once, but they were too far off the grid, surrounded by empty land with no nearby settlements. That saved them from his schemes.

She hadn’t thought much of Griffin back then. It wasn’t until long after he had left that she heard about what he had done through the base’s broadcast station.

That was when everyone realized just what kind of man he really was.

Later, Hayley would hear rumors about his wild, reckless life whenever she stopped by the tavern.

Griffin’s story didn’t end well.

In the eighth year of the apocalypse, he wandered into a large settlement called Hope Base. He tried to stir up trouble between them and Base K1, but the people at Hope Base caught him first.

Rumor had it they dragged him into a lab and sliced him up for research, trying to unlock the mystery sims blood. 1

After that, Hayley never heard another word about him.

So running into this notorious legend again, face to face, left her stunned.

“Hey, pretty lady,” Griffin said with a grin. “I’ll tell you something only you get to know I was infected with the zombie virus, but I never turned. I can walk through a swarm, and they won’t even notice me So? Doesn’t that sound like someone worth having on your team?”

His mismatched eyes, one human and one zombie, gleamed with sincerity

If Hayley hadn’t lived through ten brutal years of the apocalypse in her last life, she might’ve fallen for his charming act

Someone like him was rare, that much was true

But she knew exactly what kind of snake he was.

Hayley hesitated for a moment, staring at him.
