Chapter 158

They set off at half past seven, and it wasn’t until around three in the evening that Hayley’s convoy finally reached the rendezvous point.

Along the way, they had to clear the roads and pick the best paths.

Highways were especially tricky; entrances and exits were crowded, though the middle stretches were easier to navigate. The convoy kept stopping and going, taking nearly seven hours to reach the target.

By now, a long stretch of the road ahead had been cleared, and dozens of vehicles had already gathered.

These trucks weren’t as specialized as Base K1’s. Most were large box trucks or cargo haulers that looked like they had been scavenged from the roadside.

When Base K1’s convoy rolled up, a crowd immediately formed in front.

“Base K1 is here!”

“It’s Base Kı!”

“No wonder they’re so strong! Look at their vehicles!”

“Base K1 has the military backing them. Of course, they’re tough!”

Liam got out of the lead truck, and people from the other bases came forward to greet him.

“Hello! I’m Lucas Lambert from Future Base at the chemical plant west of Brookville! We have over 300 people in our base. Nice to meet you!”

“Hi! I’m Oliver Craig from Nova Base, south of Brookville’s development zone! Our base has over 400 people!”

“Hello! I’m Ronald Bourne from Victory Base, located on a peninsula by the Crestford border! We have over 500 people!”

“Hi, I’m Malcolm Carline from Ember Base, at Eagleton behind Brookville. We have 200 people!”

“Hello, I’m Liam Caldwell from Base K1,” Liam said politely.

“We’ve heard so much about Base K1! Too bad it’s too far away. Otherwise, we would have joined you!”

The leaders of the smaller bases all smiled warmly at Liam.

Hayley

Liam introduced her. “This is Hayley Reid, from Haylight Base.”

uzzled. They hadn’t heard of it before.

am explained.

cople saw it immediately. Low profile usually meant it was a very small base.

How many people came from Haylight Base?”

or so,” Hayley replied.

this, the others couldn’t help feeling a little envious. Only ten people? That base must be tiny!

But since she was traveling with Liam, no one said anything further. They ignored Hayley and focused on asking Liam about Base K1’s resources.

“Captain Caldwell, do you have enough food?”

“Do you have extra meat?”

“What about vegetables?”

“Captain Caldwell, we’d like to trade for some weapons. Do you have extras?”

No one even glanced at Hayley, the one with resources to spare. They all treated her as if she were invisible.

Hayley didn’t care, anyway.

At that moment, a girl with a short buzz cut and a tomboyish appearance approached Hayley. “You actually founded a base?”

Hayley looked up and met a face that was so darkened by the sun that it was hard to tell her gender. “And you are?”” “I’m Scarlett. My brother, Malcolm, and I are from Ember Base, located at Eagleton, north of Brookville.”

“Eagleton… North of Brookville,” Hayley repeated silently.

“Boss! That’s not far from us,” Leonard said.

The far west edge of Hayley’s territory backed right up to Brookville’s Eagleton.

When Scarlett heard that, her eyes widened. “You really have your own base?”
