Chapter 161
“There’s also Haylight Base. They came with me.”
Liam glanced toward Hayley.
“That’s Hayley Reid, the one running Haylight Base.”
Everyone turned their heads and saw Hayley and Leonard sitting cross-legged on the curb with Scarlett, snacking on cashews and chatting.
The crowd felt speechless.
Yeah, the whole scene felt a little off.
All these other groups were on edge, treating this multi-base meeting like some high-stakes summit. Meanwhile, those three were over there hanging out and cracking cashews like it was a lazy Sunday.
Liam already knew what Hayley was like. “Let’s go over and say hi.”
“No need.” Alex shot a quick look toward Hayley, his cold, unreadable eyes flicking away almost instantly before he turned back to everyone in front of him.
“Everyone, line up and register. Write down your people’s information. Later, we’ll divide the supplies according to the amount of work you put in on the road. Of course, Captain Caldwell, you’re exempt. We’ll stick to the terms we agreed on.”
Liam nodded.
As soon as Alex finished, the people behind him passed out a stack of forms, handing them out one group at a
time.
Liam got one as well. Well, not for him personally, but for Haylight Base.
Only the folks at Hope Base knew the location of the Eastern grain reserve.
However, they weren’t confident they could retrieve the supplies safely. They were all academics with little to no fighting skills.
So, they reached out to Liam and partnered with him to search for food.
But at the same time, Hope Base didn’t fully trust him either.
What if the armed guys he brought decided to wipe them out at the destination and take the whole themselves?
That was why Hope Base organized this huge multi-base joint expedition.

Even if it meant giving up some extra food, they needed insurance. Bringing more bases along was the best way to keep Base K1 in check.
The smaller bases took the forms with both hands, practically bowing as they carried them off to fill in. They were small fry, so they had every reason to be cautious.
“Scarlett! Scarlett!”
Malcolm grabbed his form and called out loudly to Scarlett, who was still snacking on cashews.

Hearing him, Scarlett handed her cashews back to Hayley. “I’m heading back.”
“Sure,” Hayley said, still sitting comfortably.
Just then, a hand appeared in front of her.
Hayley looked up and saw Liam walking over. She stared at him for a moment, then split her cashews in half and gave him some.
Liam froze.
“You need to fill out a form,” he said, offering the form with his free hand.
Hayley took the form and skimmed it. It asked for extremely detailed information: name, age, hometown, and even occupation before the apocalypse.
It also asked for special abilities, the base’s size, and its structure, some pretty private stuff.
“Who wants all this?”
“Hope Base.”
Hayley popped another cashew in her mouth. “Done.”
Liam stared at her, silent.
Hayley lazily brushed the dust off her pants and stood. “So Hope Base brings the map, and you guys provide the muscle, right?”
“That’s right.”
