Chapter 167
“An apology?”
Hayley stretched her arms in a long, lazy motion. She looked at the man in front of her, reached out, and patred his chest in a soothing way.
“Alright. Tell me exactly which sentence offended you, and I’ll repeat it.”
The man was dumbfounded.
At this point, he wasn’t just angry anymore. He was on the verge of tears.
How could someone like this exist? She was so damn infuriating!
Derek and the others, who had rushed over, took one look and thought the same thing.
How familiar. Yet another poor soul getting steamrolled by Hayley.
Derek himself had almost cried from frustration once.
The other bases watching nearby were fuming as well.
If anyone could ignite a whole crowd’s fury with just a few sentences, it would definitely be this little menace named Hayley.
“Haylight Base is so arrogant!” someone from Victory Base snapped.
“You only brought two people, and neither of you fought. That’s ridiculous!” someone from Future Base added.
“We’re not gonna let this slide!” Nova Base chimed in.
At that moment, a voice rose behind them.
“What’s going on here?”
Liam strode over with his team.
The moment the small bases saw him arrive, complaints poured out all at once.
“Captain Caldwell, Haylight Base didn’t send a single person out last night!”
“They’re so damn bold! Only two people came, and not even one helped!”
“They’re small in numbers to begin with, and we let it slide, but did you hear what she said? While we were fighting for our lives, she was asleep!”
Liam shot a helpless look at the walking disaster known as Hayley and forced out a defense.
“Captain Reid really might have slept through it. She probably didn’t hear anything.”
Everyone nearly coughed up blood.
Could Liam be any more obvious in shielding her?
This went way beyond favoritism. The unfairness was baffling.
But as annoyed as they were with Hayley, none of them dared challenge Liam.
If Liam and Base K1 hadn’t turned the tide last night as the main firepower, they would all be dead. On top of that,
Liam helped them deal with the injured and the fallen afterward.
Liam was someone they genuinely respected.
If he said something, they would give him face.
Liam continued, “Let’s end it here. They came with me, so Base K1 will cover Haylight Base’s contribution.”
Everyone felt even more conflicted.
It was clearer than ever.
Haylight Base….was just riding Liam’s coattails. They had zero contribution and strength. They only depended on connections.
“I think Captain Caldwell makes sense!”
Scarlett suddenly stepped forward on Hayley’s behalf.
