The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 172

Chapter 172

A burst of mist exploded through the air, and every zombie leaping toward them was blasted backward by the force.

A member of Future Base, who was being attacked, watched in shock as the zombie clawing for his heart suddenly froze an inch from his chest. Its sharp talons had already torn through his thick tactical jacket when a wall of condensed water blocked the strike.

In the next moment, that water wall shattered into countless droplets.

The droplets, thin as needles and moving at high speed, sliced across the zombie’s arm like water blades.

Each bead of water hit with the force of a bullet, punching cleanly through the iron-hård skin of the zombies.

The power was unbelievable.

Even the huge zombie in front of them was knocked back several yards.

Its swollen, bloated body looked like soaked and collapsing white bread as Hayley’s water droplets punched crater after crater

into its flesh.

After stumbling back a few steps, it stopped. Its entire body dripped with cloudy, dark fluid, as if its flesh had been soaked in

water.

“Raarh!” the zombie roared, spitting blood toward the group.

“Leonard,” Hayley said calmly, “cover me.”

“On it!”

In front of everyone, Hayley pulled out the silver saber she always carried on her back. She stepped onto the railing of the walkway and vaulted high into the air.

She swung straight for the massive zombie.

The zombie was fast and powerful, but Hayley was faster and stronger.

The silver blade flickered under the red light of the flare.

Her movements were ghostlike, so fast that the blade left trails of afterimages. Each swing carried terrifying force, cutting the air with sharp cracks.

Hayley fought with wide, clean motions. There was no wasted movement or fancy tricks; every strike aimed at the most lethal point.

The combat techniques she used were leagues beyond what existed in this era.

If one strike didn’t break through, she swung again. Her movements were sharp, her speed unmatched.

Snap!

With one final heavy blow, her saber drove a quarter of its length into the metal wall, pinning the zombie through its body

Hayley breathed lightly, gripping the hilt. With a clean metallic sound, she pulled the blade free.

As she drew it out, the massive zombie slid off the wall like over-whipped cream, collapsing into a messy heap.

Crystal core the size of a small egg dropped from the tip of her blade.

hat moment, two thin, insect-like zombies shot out of the shadows, rushing straight at Haylev

ore anyone could even shout a warning, two powerful water jets as thick as arms blasted torward.

Only then did everyone realize something.

The other member of Haylight Base, the quiet man who always stayed behind Hayley and never spoke, was also a Gifted.

And his ability was incredibly strong, too!-
