Chapter 182
“It’s the apocalypse. Cut the dramatic act. You’re her brother, not her enemy. If you care about your sister, then show it. There’s nothing embarrassing about that.””
Right after Hayley said that, a slip of paper fluttered down from above.
“This is my base’s radio frequency. If you two ever make up your minds, contact me anytime. I can take at most 30 people from your base.”
She could do good deeds, but she wasn’t stupid.
She couldn’t afford to take everyone from their base. Their people were not the type she could support. 1
The string of numbers landed right in front of Malcolm, and he quickly reached out to catch it
As soon as he did, Hayley’s truck started up again. The engine roared, and her vehicle shot forward, speeding down the straight highway.
Malcolm watched their truck disappear into the distance, the paper clenched tight in his hand.
Scarlett sat beside him, pouty and staring out the window.
After folding the slip carefully into his pocket, he nudged Scarlett’s arm.
“Alright. She’s gone. You’re not going now.
“Hmph!”
“I promise I won’t talk to you like that anymore. Happy now?”
Scarlett turned and glared at him. “You could at least say you were wrong! Is that so hard?”
“I’m your brother! Are you going against me now?”
Scarlett’s eyes turned red with anger.
Malcolm had always been like this. He never apologized or admitted he was wrong.
She was so mad that she wanted to jump out of the truck and walk back alone when a voice suddenly rang out.
“Alright, fine. I’m sorry.”
She whipped her head around and saw Malcolm looking at her with a crooked smile.
“Wipe that smug grin off your face!”
Malcolm reached over and messed up her hair roughly. His voice was low and serious.
“Before Dad died, he told me to protect you. I don’t even know how to do that right. If I had Captain Reid’s skills, I wouldn’t let you go with anyone.”
“Malcolm…”
“Captain Reid’s right. I’m your brother, not your enemy. I won’t say anything to hurt you again. Whatever I do wrong, I’ll fix it. Mom and Dad are gone, so it’s just us now. We have to take care of each other. You hear me?”
“Malcolm…”
“Gosh, are those tears? You look so ugly when you cry. Didn’t you swear you’d never cry again?”
“Malcolm!”

“Alright, alright. My bad. You look pretty when you cry. You’re the prettiest sister in the whole world. Stop crying. Your eyes will get puffy.”
“Hmph!” Scarlett wiped her tears in a hurry. She stared at him seriously. “Am I really ugly?”
“Who says you’re ugly? You just don’t dress up. I’ll take you to the market someday and buy, no, steal you some nice clothes. Once you dress up, you’ll look like a pretty little fairy, just like Captain Reid.”
Scarlett finally broke into a laugh. “Didn’t you say you wanted to thank Captain Reid properly? Why did you only say one word just now?”
“What else do you want me to say?”
