Chapter 183
Hayley thought for a moment about where she could grab the most people, then decided she should personally drive Base K1’s
truck back.
What was the fastest way to recruit residents? Dig people out of someone else’s base, of course!
And where were there plenty of people? Base K1.
“Leonard, stay here and watch the base. I’m going to return the truck.”
“Wait, how are you getting back?”
“I’ll make them send me home.”
Leonard was stunned.
Then what was the point of her driving the truck back? She could’ve just radioed Derek to pick it up.
Hayley drove Liam’s truck toward Base K1.
By around three, she reached the outer gate.
The guards saw one of their own trucks and immediately switched to easy mode. Hayley didn’t rush in. She said to one of them,
I’m here to return the truck. Let your boss, Liam, know.”
The guard hurried off to report.
While waiting, Hayley stood at the entrance and watched the
outside.
On both sides of the road, people were lined up waiting to enter.
These survivors had heard Base K1’s 24-hour broadcast calling people in. Anyone who heard it came running toward this giant
base.
Hayley’s attention settled on one group.
“Don’t push! Don’t push! Everyone will get inside!
“We all finished our quarantine! They’ll let us in! There’s a kid and a pregnant woman here, so please stop shoving!”
A man wearing glasses and a white shirt so dirty that it had turned gray was trying desperately to keep the crowd caim.
Alas, no one listened.
In fact, they shoved him even harder.
“Then move out of the way! If you give us your spot, we won’t push!”
“Yeah! Easy for you to talk when you’re at the front!”
“There’s a kid and a pregnant lady? I’ve got an elderly dad here! Why don’t you let him go first?”
To Hayley’s surprise, the man in the gray shirt actually stepped aside.
“Sir, come here. Take my place. You go ahead.”
Hayley didn’t expect that.
She watched the man get shoved completely out of line. He didn’t even get to take the elderly man’s original spot.
Once he gave it up, everyone behind the old man surged forward and filled the gap, squeezing him all the way to the back.

The man stumbled and wiped sweat from his face. He looked at the newly formed line and didn’t complain once. He simply walked to the very end and queued up again.
Then, more survivors approached him.
“Let us go first! We just finished quarantine! We really need to get in.”
The man clutched his quarantine pass and said, completely without temper, “Alright.”
