Chapter 195

Cyril felt deeply shaken by everything he saw. Maylight Base had to be incredibly wealthy for its residents to be this warm and welcoming
Soon, they learned just how wealthy it really was.
There was a huge, fully automated self serve supermarket right inside the base.
“I’m going to grab some meat from the store! Ms. Reid, don’t leave. I have to make you beef stew, my best dish!”
“Then I’ll go prep a chicken! Ms. Reid, my husband makes the best barbecue chicken. You have to try it!”
“I’ll run to the store for drinks and cashews! You all start eating first!”
“My place has fresh fruit. I’ll bring some over!”
Cyril and the others watched in disbelief as Haylight Base residents ran in and out of one of the villas like an excited parade. “That over there is our base-run supermarket,” Hayley said. “Whatever supplies you need later, you can buy them inside.” Hayley led Cyril and the others to the store.
This time, Cyril’s group was so shocked that none of them could even speak.
There were supplies stacked everywhere.
Bags and bags of pasta, shelves full of grains, crates of fresh vegetables, shampoo, soap, body wash, sanitary products, clothes, shoes, socks, and even snacks that were common before the apocalypse.
Potato chips, canned ham, cookies, soda, lollipops…
They could buy all of it. Just like before the world ended.
“Whoa…” a little kid from Cyril’s group whispered in awe. “Did we end up in heaven?”
It wasn’t just the kids. The adults were thinking the exact same thing.
Every single one of them was stunned beyond belief.
Ten minutes later, they all understood the rules of Hayley’s base.
“As long as all of you work hard, I guarantee you’ll live just like the residents here. You’ll eat well, you’ll have meat every day,
Γ ́ and everything they enjoy, you’ll enjoy too.”
Cyril and the rest looked like their eyes were glowing. They were thrilled.
Everything the residents had, they could have, too.
What kind of magical place had they come to?
Unlike the residents here, they came from Base K1. They had seen how other bases lived. They had suffered through miserable
conditions.
While other bases were still struggling just to stay fed, Hayley’s people were already eating meat. While other bases packed survivors into shantytowns, she provided villas.
While the other bases rationed supplies like they were squeezing water from a stone, Hayley’s place raised pigs and stocked a massive supermarket full of goods, even snacks. They could get whatever they wanted here, whenever they wanted, as long as they had enough points.
Compared to Base K1, Hayley’s place was a real, living heaven.

No wonder even Liam said that following Hayley was a good thing.
A good thing?
This was winning the damn cosmic lottery!
Before arriving, they had all been terrified, convinced that coming here was a gamble with their lives. They thought they were opening a blind box.
But the moment they opened it, they drew the highest jackpot imaginable. It felt like the goddess of luck had kicked them straight into a pile of happiness.
They couldn’t help thinking of that foolish Malone family from yesterday.
If Jordan and his family ever learned what Haylight Base was really like, they would drown in regret!
The thought only made everyone feel even luckier.
Thank God they hadn’t been stupid like Jordan. Thank God they came.
That one decision had completely rewritten their fate.
