Chapter 194

The group saw terraced fields stretched across the open and as far as they could see, packed with all kinds of crops.

Wheat, potatoes, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, rows of fully matured kale, spinach, onions, white radishes, cabbage, collards, eggplants…

There were so many varieties that it was impossible to list them all.

Everywhere they looked, the land was overflowing with crops.

While the major bases were still scrambling to build higher walls to keep out zombies, and the smaller bases were running around like headless chickens searching for safe zones, this place had already returned to full-scate production.

And the output was massive.

The group was utterly in awe. How in the world did Hayley manage this?

As the vehicle continued deeper into the farmland, everyone soon saw a whole row of neatly arranged villas.

Small groups of people walked between them. Unlike the gaunt, dirty survivors they had gotten used to seeing after the apocalypse, every person here looked well-fed, healthy, clean, and energized. Their faces were bright with motivation and joy, se niuch so that the newcomers felt like they had stepped into another world.

After everything they had gone through, from the brutality of the apocalypse to the constant pressure at Base K1, none of them had ever been able to relax.

No one could possibly look as carefree as these residents.

“Pigs! Professor Floyd, look! There are pigs!” A young researcher pointed at a villa yard up ahead. Inside were about four pigs walking around.

“There are chickens and ducks, too!”

Everyone stared in disbelief. Every house had livestock in the yard.

A young woman carrying a large bowl walked out of one of the villas. She dumped a mix of vegetables, rice, and pasta into a

trough for the pigs.

Whatever was left in the bowl, she tossed to the chickens and ducks running around the yard.

Everyone watching had their jaw on the ground.

No way. That much food…fed to pigs?

Back at Base K1, they couldn’t even fill their own stomachs. Yet here, these people had enough extra food to feed livestock!

And not scraps. Real food.

Of course, this was normal here.

Hayley’s place lacked many things, but basic food was never one of them. Not only had she recently obtained a massive stockpil of grain, but the farmland here was also producing so heavily that vegetables were overflowing.

The soil was so rich that they couldn’t eat the produce fast enough.

And if they couldn’t finish it? They turned it into meat.

Pigs and chickens had excellent feed-to-meat conversion rates. About three pounds of feed could become a pound of pork, and two pounds of feed could become a pound of chicken.

Hayley even adjusted prices and lowered the cost of grain, allowing residents to raise livestock without worrying about

expenses.

Whatever veggies the base eophmi’t eat, the residents used to raise more animals. All of this boosted the living standards of Haylight Base by a huge margin.

Hayley wanted everyone at Haylight Base to be able to eat meat.

And the sight in front of them left Cyril and the others too shocked to speak.

To them, Haylight Base was practically heaven!

“We’re here. Hop out.”

Hayley parked in the center of the villa district. Immediately, all the nearby residents came rushing over.

“Ms. Reid!”

“Ms. Reid!”

“You’re back!”

“I brought you all some new companions,” Hayley said as she got out of the vehicle.

Leonard opened the door, and Cyril’s group climbed out one by one.
