The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 212

Chapter 212

“I told you already, that Haylight Base your mentioned is basically paradise. No other base is producing food right now, let alone raising livestock. That kind of setup means they have so much food that even after feeding all the people, they still have leftovers to raise animals. Why in the hell would you leave a place that good just to come bere?”

The young couple stood frozen.

Only now did the truth hit them like a brick. They had thrown away a miracle.

They actually walked away from a paradise like Haylight Base and traveled a long way just fe end up in the worst place possible.

Of all the choices they could have made, they somehow picked the absolute bottom.

They wanted to slap themselves hard.

They had one huge chance, one unbelievable stroke of luck, and they tossed it away like idiots.

And they weren’t the only ones regretting it.

“Mom, Mike messaged me again. He said they had meat today! He said Ms. Reid brought back all of Professor Floyd’s lab equipment from the city, and now, his dad and Professor Floyd are doing research again. And they get fresh meat every day!

“Dad, I really want meat, too. I wish we were there with them. They even said they have a supermarket. And lollipops! I want to eat a lollipop.”

Hearing their daughter Luna talk, Jordan and Iris Malone felt their hearts burn with regret.

Cyril’s group was living better than they ever imagined.

They followed Hayley, and they actually got the life she promised. They were having meat every day, with real food, safety, and

comfort.

And Hayley somehow managed to drag research equipment out of a zombie-infested city just to give Cyril’s team a chance to keep working.

Meanwhile, Jordan’s family was still stuck in a shantytown, doing hard labor and barely scraping by. Meat wasn’t even something they dared think about.

How could they have been so stupid? How did they let go of their chance to join Haylight Base?

Cyril even told them to come. He warned them not to stay behind.

And they laughed at him.

Iris was especially regretful. She had even mocked Hayley to her face.

Thinking about it now made her cheeks burn so hot she wanted to crawl into a hole. She couldn’t believe how stupid she had

been.

Every night, the couple lay awake, replaying that moment they said no.

Regret ate them alive.

While everyone in Base K1 struggled to survive, the residents of Haylight Base were just as busy, but in a completely different

way.

“Time to build the greenhouses!”

“Come on, everyone. Let’s get moving!”
