Chapter 216
“What’s your frame?” Robert siddenly asked.
“Hayley Reid.”
“Hayley Reid,” Robert repeated softly, “Gol it won’t forget it. From now on, I pray for your safety every day. I hope you live a long, peaceful life. Thank you for saving mine.”
Hayley looked at the man with the thick glasses, smiling like the purest, raost gullible puppy alive
Mischief sparked in her eyes.
“So that’s it? You think saying thank you is enough repayment?”
A guy this gifted absolutely needed to be recruited.
Robert thought it over seriously. “You’re right. I owe you my life. I will work like a dog to repay you. What do you need, Ms Read?
“1
“Well, since you said you’d work like a dog to repay me, then starting today, you’re my dog.
Robert froze. He stared at her with widened eyes.
This lady…was so direct, brutal, and, apparently, literal.
“It’s not like I won’t give you anything,” Hayley added. “You work for me, and I’ll cover your food, housing, wedding costs, your kid’s birthday parties, and you’ll get 100 points a month as your salary. You can trade those points for whatever you want. I’ve got all kinds of supplies.”
Robert listened like she was reading a prophecy off a stone tablet.
Then, he said, “But… I already joined Base K1.”
“That base has no future. You should follow a place that has hope. Like Haylight Base.”
Robert’s eyes flew wide. “Haylight Base? You’re from Haylight Base?”
“You’ve heard of it?”
His eyes lit up, as if someone shoved a flashlight in his skull. He nodded so fast that his glasses nearly flew off
“Of course, I’ve heard of it!
“I know now. You must be the woman they talked about. The kind leader who rescued Judy Hopkins and her trend from the city and even sent them off safely without asking for anything. You’re a good person. I’m willing to join you!”
Hayley was stunned.
She had no idea that the two people she let go, plus the map she handed out, created a whole buttertly effect
Judy had spent days bragging in Base Ki, telling Robert how amazing Haylight Base was, how nice their leader was, and how safe, clean, and comfortable everything was.
The more Robert heard, the more convinced he became that Haylight Base was basically his promised land.
He was sure that a leader that kind had to be the greatest person alive.
He decided he had to follow her.
Hayley’s casual favor had just helped her recruit a powerhouse.
