Chapter 217
Hayley expanded her territory by another three acres today and even picked up a priceless treasure along the way.
It was a very productive day.
Hayley was in an excellent mood.
Of course, someone like Robert wasn’t a person she could bring along on dangerous zombie-clearing trips.
In her mind, Robert’s official role in Haylight Base would be their mascot.
He would stay inside the base, use his natural kindness to help residents, run errands, manage her shelter, and raise the overall morale of the place.
And when necessary, he could still protect people.
She believed in placing people exactly where they worked best. That was good leadership.
Bringing Robert into combat would be a disaster. Not only was he unwilling to kill zombies, but his saint-like personality would also drag her into unnecessary trouble every single time.
Hayley was a sharp, logical leader. She could spot future trouble in one glance, and she always avoided it before it reached her.
No matter how capable or trustworthy someone was, if their presence in her squad created chaos, she would never drag them
into the field. It would hurt the team and even Robert himself.
A good leader controlled the whole picture from the start and gave everyone a clear role.
Which was why she assigned Robert the clearest role possible. He would stay inside the base as their good-luck charm.
“From now on, you’re in charge of logistics at my base. You’ll help manage my shelter and assist the residents.”
The moment Robert heard he could help others, his eyes lit up, as if someone had plugged him into a power socket. “I can do that! I’m good at that!”
Hayley drove him straight back to the residential area.
Robert finally saw the place Judy and her friend had described.
Row after row of villas, endless farmland, and every household raising chickens, ducks, and pigs.
It was lunchtime, so smoke curled up from every kitchen. People walking along the street looked over and rushed to greet them
warmly.
Robert’s heart thumped hard.
This place looked exactly like the world he had always dreamed of. It was beautiful, peaceful, and tull of life.
“Ms. Reid, you’re back again!”
“Ms. Reid, did you bring us a new friend today?”
“Guys, come over. Ms. Reid’s back!”
Residents, of Haylight Base gathered around enthusiastically.
Leonard, who had been working on the greenhouses, immediately jogged over when he saw her
“Boss!”
“Let me introduce your new teammate. This is Robert Pearson.” Hayley pulled Robert forward.

Leonard took une look at the shy matt in the gray shirt and thick glasses and nodded approvingly. His clear eyes, calm aura, and honest expression all screamed dependable.
The boss had made another good pick.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Leonard Woods. I’m the Boss’s-”
“I know!” Robert grabbed his hand excitedly. “You’re her dog. I’m also her dog.”
Leonard and Hayley both froze at the same time.
Well… Technically, that was true.
“Then we’ll work hard together for Ms. Reid,” Leonard said smoothly.
