The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 234

Chapter 234

Wallace was about ready to explode from Hayley’s nonstop attacks.

Yesterday was the first day. He could clearly tell she came in hostile, so he didn’t let Ted try anything

Today was different. They were about to haul everything back, so of course, he planned to grab as much as he could while nobody was looking.

He never expected Hayley to catch them the moment they made a move.

Hate and fear mixed in his eyes as he stared at her. Even with his face swollen like a balloon, fre forced a smile

“Captain Reid, he’s really not an inventory-variant Gifted.”

Hayley walked closer. “Then swear it.”

“Fine! I swear he absolutely doesn’t have inventory abilities! If he is, our whole tear. will die a horrible death!”

“Hold it. No need to drag everyone in,” Hayley said calmly. “Just you.”

Wallace froze. The fake confidence on his swollen face cracked instantly, and he hesitated.

“What, you scared now?” Hayley said coolly. “If you’re not brave enough to swear, just admit it. If you do, Captain Caldwell won’t kill you. At worst, you lose half your supplies. How about that?”

Wallace clenched his teeth. “Fine! I swear! If he’s an inventory-variant Gifted, I’ll die a horrible death!”

After all, he thought Hayley couldn’t prove anything.

So what if he swore? What could really happen? He was betting she had no way to expose it.

Suddenly, a cold flash cut through the air.

The saber on Hayley’s back came out in one smooth motion and landed straight across Ted’s neck.

The moment the blade touched him, Ted’s face went pale. “W-What are you doing?”

“Inventory-variant Gifted drop everything when they die,” Hayley said evenly. “I’ll check your ability that way.”

“You can’t do this!” Ted stumbled backward in panic. “That’s murder!”

“Captain Reid! You can’t just kill someone because you said so!” Wallace shouted.

Hayley’s eyes turned icy, and a dangerous smile curved across her lips.

“If he doesn’t have inventory abilities, then I die. That’s my bet.”

She was putting her life on the line right in front of them.

Except… She already knew exactly what every single person on their side could do.

Hayley lifted the saber slightly.

Before the blade even came down, Ted dropped to his knees with a thud.

“I’m an inventory-variant Gifted! Please, don’t kill me! I’ll return everything I took!”

With a rushed motion, Ted dumped all the stolen supplies onto the floor.

Wallace felt his head pound like it was about to split open.

Unbelievable. Karma truly is a bitch!

He had just sworn, and his own man exposed him one second later. Even worse, the curse in that oath was on him

Wallace’s legs gave out, and he also dropped to his knees in front of Liam.

“Captain Caldwell, I swear I didn’t know! i had no idea about his ability!”

Everyone stood speechless.

Could he at least come up with a story that sounded believable?

“You liar!” Wallace turned and lashed out at Ted in a panic. “You hid your ability and made me swear that oath. You’ll pay for this!”

Wallace was terrified Hayley might actually kill him.
