Chapter 24,7
Liam’s tear threw open the gate.
Nobody used guns. They switched to blades and abilities, moving fast and staying quies Within ten minutes, every zomb area was down.
Everyone rushed back to their vehicles and pulled out.
Milo left as well, carrying the battery-powered radio Hayley had given him and the frequency number memorized, headi straight back to his own base.
On the way back, Liam’s convoy stopped at the first intersection and handed Shield Base 1,000 pieces of clothing.
Shield Base hadn’t really done much this time, anyway. They had provided one night of lodging and some meals, and mos helped haul boxes behind Liam’s team.
The original deal was to give them ten times their headcount, about two thousand clothing items. But because of their own nonsense and Hayley’s interference, that number got cut in half.
Still, a thousand pieces were more than enough to get them through the winter.
Liam even made sure they picked the thickest ones.
He was fair like that.
When they got close to their own base, Liam told Derek to drive Hayley’s group home, and he loaded their truck with clothe well.
There were roughly five thousand pieces. Counting what Hayley had taken herself, she walked away with over ten thousand items on this run.
Of course, Liam took the biggest share.
His people had done most of the fighting, and Base K1 hauled away over a total of 100 thousand pieces of clothing.
Not only was winter completely covered for his base, but they would still have plenty left to trade with other bases for supplie When Hayley returned to her own base, she rolled out benefits, too.
After giving out free winter coats last time, she had Hayz put part of this new batch into the base store and sell it cheaply.
Fifty points for a winter jacket, and ten points for thermal underwear, plus tons of underwear and kids’ clothes.
Whenever she had extra, she gave more to her people.
She wanted Haylight Base to live better than any other base.
At the same time, that pushed up the base prosperity level.
“Wow, the store has so many new clothes!”
“Ms. Reid must have gathered all this for us!”
“Ms. Reid is amazing!”
“Yeah, she’s the best!”
The prosperity level kept climbing and was about to hit the next stage Hayley was thinking about how to keep raising the level when she received a new message.
“Dear Ms. Reid, you have a new message from sweet Scarlett ”

Hayley blinked “Scarlett?”
It took her three seconds to remember who that was.
“Scarlett from Ember Base?”
“Yes. She’s from Ember Base. Would you like to hear the message?”
“Yes,”
Hayz played the recording
“Captain Reid, I’m Scarlett. I heard you started something called the Haylight League to recapture cities. They say you’ll help support the teams that join and offer the evolution serum at a low cost. Ember Base wants to join your league and work with you. Is that okay?”
Hayley smiled.
“Hayz, connect me to sweet Scarlett and tell her Ember Base has officially joined the Haylight League!”
As soon as she said that, a voice chimed in her head.
