The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 261

“Don’t look,” Hayley said as she pulled Scarlett’s head into her chest.

“What’s wrong?” Wilona asked

“She says she’s feeling dizzy,” Hayley replied simply.

Wilona didn’t suspect a thing. If anything, she thought the drug was just working faster than expected.

She picked up the pace.

“There’s one more level.”

She lifted the flooring in front of them, and another staircase leading downward appeared.

“Come on down. Most of our people live below.”

They were terrified of zombies and didn’t dare live in surface buildings. Besides, there were pregnant zombies nearby. Who knew when the zombie babies might crawl in?

So, their real base was underground.

Before Timberfall was developed, an underground tunnel network was built as a wartime shelter.

The passages connected several locations around Timberfall. Now, they served as a perfect hiding place from zombies.

Whenever danger appeared, everyone hid below.

The moment Hayley reached the underground level, more than a dozen men came into view.

In the dim tunnel, a single unknown light source barely lit the place. She could just make out women trembling in the shadows behind the men, curled up like lambs waiting for slaughter.

When the men saw Hayley and Scarlett, their eyes turned greedy.

“This one’s hot.”

“Look at that smooth skin. I bet it’ll break if I pinch a little harder.”

“Quinton, when you’re done, let us have some fun, too.”

Quinton Clem was in his thirties, a huge man with a scar running from his forehead all the way down to his jaw.

He was ugly, and his googly eyes were locked on Hayley with a wet, greedy stare.

“You did well. Tonight, you get to eat at the table,” he told Wilona and the others.

Wilona and her group rushed forward, as if they had just been rewarded with gold

At that moment, a hand landed on Wilona’s shoulder. “Wall”

Wilona thought Hayley was scared she didn’t even bother pretending anymore and instead gave Hayley a look of take pity

“Don’t be scared. You’re pretty If you’re smart and cozy up to Quinton, he might let you live a little longer. But Scarlett’s another story.”

“No, I just wanted to ask. Is this really everyone you’ve got?” Hayley asked with a harmless smile

The men burst into laughter.

“We’re not enough for you?”

“How many do you want?”

“We’ve got plenty here!”

Just then, a thin man came running in. “Boss, we spotted a group at the north gate! They’re all Gifted, and they’re strong! They saw us!”
