Chapter 264
A vehicle sped away from the west side of the city.
On the road, Hayley, Milo, and Liam leaned together and held a quick meeting.
“That tunnel is perfect. We can turn it into a stronghold and clear out the entire zombie area from there.”
“I was thinking the same thing.”
“Works for me,” another voice agreed.
Scarlett watched Hayley in the middle of the discussion, her admiration rising even higher.
Hayley was seriously cool.
Back at Scarlett’s base, it didn’t matter if a woman was capable. Men still wouldn’t listen to her, much less actually discuss pl
with her.
Seeing Hayley take charge every time, standing right at the center of the league and calling the shots, Scarlett felt nothing bu
awe.
Just then, a staggering figure suddenly appeared in the middle of the road ahead.
“Help me!”
Thomas was driving. “Boss, there’s someone ahead.”
Hayley looked up and saw a woman in her early thirties wearing a thin dress, with only a man’s long-sleeve jacket thrown ove
Her hair looked like it hadn’t been washed in ages, tangled and messy. Her face was pale, and she looked like she might collap at any second. The April cold snap hadn’t let up, and she was shivering violently in the open.
There were no zombies on either side of the road. She kept glancing around and waved desperately at Hayley’s vehicle.
The car slowed to a stop.
The woman rushed forward and pounded on the door. “Please, help me!”
At that moment, two vehicles appeared on the road ahead.
Seeing them, the woman panicked even more. Her face twisted in fear as she begged, “Please, save me!”

“What happened to you?” Scarlett rolled down the window.
The woman grabbed the edge of the window. “I escaped. If they catch me, they’ll beat me to death!”
As she spoke, she pushed up the sleeve of the oversized Jacket. Her arms were covered in bruises. Her purple, cracked lips were swollen from the cold. Her terrified eyes were full of desperation.
“Please save me! I promise I’il repay you!”
Hayley studied the woman’s face, suddenly finding it familiar It reminded her of her mother
“Are you.. Ruby Cross?”
Hearing that long-forgotten name, the woman froze, then stared at Hayley m confusion. “How do you know that?”
“Get her in the car,” Hayley said immediately
Cross was her mother’s maiden name.

Ruby was Hayley’s aunt!
Cynthia had a younger sister, about ten years her junior, which made her thirteen years older than Hayley.
When Hayley was little, Ruby loved taking her out, carrying her to clubs, and dragging her along to parties and drinking.
Yes, clubs and drinks.
Ruby had always been wild and reckless, and she was always into love and romance.
Still, she treated Hayley well. Once, Bernard showed up out of nowhere and started yelling at three-year-old Hayley. Ruby went straight for a knife and chased him out of the house on the spot.
Later, rebellious Ruby fell in love with a man in his forties at eighteen and insisted on leaving the country with him. It nearly broke Hayley’s grandparents and ended their relationship completely.
After that, Hayley never saw Ruby again.
Once Ruby was inside the car, she spotted Hayley sitting in the middle.
