The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 269

Chapter 269

By now, it had been eight months since the zombie outbreak.

After the initial chaos and panic, human survivor bases were slowly adjusting.

Among the many bases scattered around, the ones in poor locations didn’t last long and were wiped out by zombie ho They flashed briefly on the global radio, leaving behind a single coordinate before disappearing forever.

Others ran out of resources and couldn’t go out for supplies, so they collapsed from within. The cannibal base Hayley r earlier was one such case. Even if they had never crossed her path, they wouldn’t have survived more than a few month

There were also all kinds of ridiculous reasons for failure. Infighting. Power struggles. Bases falling apart and people fl their own.

Some people completely lost their minds in the apocalypse. They went on killing sprees inside their own bases and end attracting zombie swarms.

In the end, the ones still standing were either truly strong or just incredibly lucky.

Alex ran a rough count on his computer. Since he had started tracking the bases in this region until now, one-third of th already gone.

They were like bubbles in a storm. The weak got popped first. If even entire bases were dying off like this, individuals had

worse.

Alex stared coldly at the data models on his screen.

“Is Hayley still attacking?” he asked.

“Yes,” his pretty secretary, Margaret Schmidt, answered while standing beside him.

Margaret didn’t look great. Her hair hadn’t been washed in a long time, but with so little oil in her diet, it was dry and yello instead of greasy. Even so, she kept herself tidy. Her clothes were neat, and her hair was carefully combed.

She looked nothing like survivors from the smaller bases.

“They’re attacking the northern part of the city. Timberfall is the target.”

Hayley was playing everything out in the open. Nothing was hidden.

Every move was broadcast openly on the radio.

First, it was to call more small bases to join them. Second, it was to warn anyone with poor judgment to stay out of the way an not slow them down

“Let me hear it,” Alex said

“Yes, sir”

Margaret played a recording A refined male voice filled the room

“Listen up, idiots. We’re taking Timberfall in the north it you’ve got any sense, get out of the way. If you interfere, we’ll treat you like zombies But if you’ve got a brain, you re welcome to juu on brilham and powerful league and fight zombies with us

Cheers”

Alex stared in silence

Those who joined them were called mitelligent Refuse, and you be labelled an idica

In the beginning, it hadn’t been this direct. It had been much softer.

The one running the broadcasts was Robert, an educated man. When Hayley first told him what to announce, he always polished the wording and made it sound polite..

The very first broadcast went like this:

“Dear fellow survivors, hello. We are the Haylight

League. Multiple bases have joined forces to reclaim the cities. This is a great cause, and we sincerely hope you will lend us your strength.”

After that overly polite message went out, there wasn’t a single reply.

Hayley was irritated by it. It sounded more like begging than rallying.

After chewing Robert out, she made him repeat her words exactly, without any edits or filters

From that day on, every broadcast started with the same line.

“Listen up, idiots.”

Hayley always believed that strength was the real pull.

If people came, she welcomed them. But she would never go begging base by base. Real power never comes from kneeli

Anyone who showed up just for the benefits would start weighing pros and cons the moment things got hard and lose th

nerve.

Hayley didn’t want a noisy crowd pretending to be loyal. She wanted a single, united force, strong like tron.

Once her strength reached a certain level, the right people would come on their own.

The road could be slow, but it had to be steady.

She wanted people to make their own decision to join. Either way, they would be the ones coming to find her.

After getting insulted by the radio announcement, Alex muttered, “Compared to downtown, Timberfall has fewer zombie the terrain is complicated, and the streets are dense. They’ve got no clean entry point. She’s going to get crushed this time The moment he finished speaking, Margaret’s radio crackled with breaking news.

“Listen up, idiots. Haylight League has taken Timberfall. We crushed it!”

Alex went silent.

Did Hayley have to prove him wrong immediately every single time?

He had just said it, and Hayley’s announcement came right away.

Even his stone-cold expression almost cracked.

Margaret looked at his face, shifting between pale and flushed. “Mr. Kirk, are you feeling okay? Your face keeps changing co

Alex snapped, “Get out.”

News of Hayley’s victory spread across every base in the Eastern region,

This time, a lot of bases couldn’t sit still anymore.

“Haylight League has pushed into the north side of the city!”

“Yeah, they’ve already taken their first stronghold in the north. The entire district is just a matter of time”

“If they take one more district, that’s two down in Aecraton!”
