There were eight of them in total; four guys and four giris
They just happened to be four couples. The four girls had even shared the same dorm before.
With a setup like that, their little group had stayed fairly stable.
Of course, there had been messy fights and relationship drama, but in the apocalypse, they relied on each other. They were classmates, after all. No matter how bad things got, it never truly blew up.
Until the man in the baseball cap showed up.
“Ned, you should keep an eye on your girlfriend, or she’s gonna run off with that guy,” someone sneered.
Ned Banks stared at the two of them with burning anger. “Cecilia, get over here.”
The girl who had spotted Hayley earlier was Cecilia Harris. She was walking beside Griffin now.
When she heard Ned, she didn’t even look at him. She kept walking with Griffin as she said, “Ignore him. Let’s keep talking.”
“Cecilia!” Ned stormed forward. “Are you into this guy? Is that what this is about?”
“What are you talking about?” she snapped. “You don’t believe me, but he does. So I’m talking to him. What’s wrong with that?
“Don’t think I don’t know what you’re doing!” Ned glared jealously at Griffin.
“Griffin brought us food. Without him, we would’ve starved to death!”
“Yeah, well, he also brought all those zombies down on the first floor!”
Cecilia rolled her eyes. “There were zombies outside already. If you’re so capable, go kill them yourself. If you can’t, then why does it matter how many there are?”
“Cecilia!”
“It’s the truth! You don’t have Griffin’s ability to kill zombies, but you stare at us like we’re criminals. If you’re a man, go kill zombies instead of acting all cool and stuff in front of me!”
Ned’s anger exploded. “You wanna break up, huh?”
“I wanted to break up a long time ago. You’re useless trash! Get lost.” Cecilia shot Ned one last look, then turned back to Grifti “I saw a woman just now. She…”
Ned finally snapped and swung his fist at Griffin.
Right then, a loud clatter echoed from downstairs, as the shutter door was yanked opea
Everyone froze.
Was it a person? Or a zombie?

“Aaah!”
All four girls screamed.
Down at the back entrance, Hayley had been quietly clearing out stragglers when she heard the screams. Her brow tightened.
It was already out of her control now.
She had planned to slip in silently, skip the gunfire, and take out the back door zombies one by one. After that, she would grab what she needed and leave the same way without trouble.
She had just finished off the last one when four piercing screams rang out.
In an instant, the zombies outside and those near the front were all drawn in.
Cursing under her breath, Hayley pulled the metal shutter down first before worrying about how she would leave later.
How were there still people this stupid around?
The moment the shutter closed, countless zombies slammed into it from outside.
Bang, bang, bang!
The metal rattled violently.
She pulled the glass door shut as well, barely blocking them. Then, she turned around to see about five knives and baseball bats pointed at her.
About ten feet away, four young men in student clothes watched her warily with weapons in hand.
On the staircase behind them stood four girls holding weapons as well, but they were small kitchen knives.
Hayley glanced at them coolly. “Is it just you here?”
“Who are you?” Ned shouted with forced bravado. “What are you here for?”
Hayley couldn’t be bothered with a group of well–fed students who still looked like kids and thought those toys would scare her
She swept her gaze across the store. The first floor had been looted clean, but the pharmacy shelves were mostly untouched.
She walked straight to the medicine aisle and started grabbing supplies.
She went through the motions of stuffing them into her bag while actually storing them in her inventory.
Seeing that she ignored them completely, the boys exchanged looks.
“Stop! This place is ours! You can’t take that!” Ned shouted again.
Hayley acted like she didn’t hear him and kept clearing shelf after shelt. Ned finally tried to move forward with the others.
