Hayley was instantly intrigued

“Captain Gorgeous, what are yourstaring at?” Griffin asked.

“Checking out a guy,” she said curtly.

Griffin paused, swallowing his words.

The next morning, once the sun was up, Hayley’s convoy finished prepping and headed into the mountains together. That was when Jim came over again. “Are you really going into the mountains?”

“Yeah.”

“I’d like to go in with you. There was a landslide here a while back, and the routes inside changed. We know the roads. If you give us a ride, we can guide you in. Once we find vehicles again, we’ll split off. We’ll also give you half our supplies.”

Jim spoke with complete sincerity.

They had lost their vehicles. Staying put and waiting for Hayley to return was too dangerous, and even if she came back, they still wouldn’t have transportation.

After discussing it among themselves, Jim’s group decided to offer up half their supplies in exchange for a ride. Their former base was inside the mountains anyway, and they could look for vehicles there.

Hayley quickly did the math in her head. It was a good deal. Her eyes flicked sideways.

“Then tell me one thing first,” she said.

“What?” Jim asked.

“What’s your gift?”

Jim hesitated immediately. After three seconds, he answered, “Air barrier.”

Hayley’s eyes widened.

So it really was him!

“Bring your people here,” Hayley said.

She had already decided she wanted this monster on her side.

Not long after, Jim arrived with his group and their supplies.

Hayley’s armored vehicle was massive. Pitting both people and supplies inside wasn’t an issue at all
