Chapter 334
Most of the zombies were packed onto the first and second floors, the lower levels.
Alex had given Hayley reference models. According to his data, barring afrything unexpected, the third floor should have the fewest zombies.
Sure enough, it was just as he said.
Only then did Hayley set Griffin down. She scanned the hospital while placing explosives at the fixed points Alex had marked
out.
The third floor was wide and open, with corridors that connected directly to the inpatient wing next door.
Hayley moved carefully through the hospital interior, where a thick layer of dust covered everything. Up here, she could barely
hear a sound.
There were no lights on inside the building. Only daylight from outside filtered in, illuminating rows of tightly shut
examination rooms.
Endocrinology. Gastroenterology. And in the very center, a massive blood draw and lab testing area.
The blood draw room sat along a main corridor. A long wall of clear glass held over a dozen draw windows. During peak hours. all of them would’ve been open at once.
Outside the windows were rows and rows of waiting chairs. Two number display screens, long since powerless, stood silently above the seats. Now, the chairs were scattered and crooked. Dark streaks of blood stained the floor and the seats. The blood trail stretched from the draw windows all the way to Hayley’s feet.
She looked down at the dried blood, then turned toward where it curved away, toward an emergency stairwell door.
Suddenly, a pale zombie face filled her vision.
“Raarh!”
A zombie in a white lab coat slammed violently against the emergency door. Its face was pressed tight to the narrow gap of the
locked door.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
It looked like the doctor zombie had been trapped inside the stairwell for a long time. The small glass panel in the door was covered in bloody handprints.
When the zombie sensed Hayley’s living presence, it went wild and pounded even harder.
