A tall red cross stood high above a cone–shaped roof.
A massive hospital complex with five buildings sat quietly in the southern district. Centered around the hospital, the surrounding streets were packed with wandering zombies.
A vehicle stopped just before entering the zombie–filled streets.
Hayley didn’t bring everyone with her. She had the rest stay behind and wait quietly.
The reason? She had no need for them at all.
Liam thought the hospital was crawling with zombies and extremely dangerous. He wanted Hayley to bring as many people as possible.
In reality, Hayley didn’t need anyone.
Honestly, if Griffin’s loyalty were just a little higher, she would’ve sent him in alone.
Clearing zombies in a core zone and planting explosives was insanely hard for most people. For a half–zombie like Griffin, though, it was nothing.
“You all stay here,” Hayley said. “Be ready to pick up Griffin and me at any time. Stay alert, and don’t draw attention.”
“Got it!” everyone replied.
That was exactly why Hayley dared to bring the newcomer, Bradley, along. This mission had almost no difficulty. They were here purely for experience.
Hayley left Leonard and the others in the safe zone and carefully moved out with Griffin.
After getting out of the vehicle, Griffin said, “How about you let me go in alone? I’ll plant the explosives and come right back.”
Hayley looked at him. “And then you’ll run off.”
Griffin paused. “You really don’t trust me at all, huh?”
Hayley laughed. “Then tell me this. If I let you go alone, would you run?”
Griffin didn’t hesitate. “Yeah.”
Hayley held back the urge to slap him.
Exactly. There was no way she would ever let him go plant bombs alone.
If he planted them and ran, fine, the job still got done. But if he ran off with her explosives, what was she supposed to do?
If you knew the obvious risks, you shouldn’t play around. That would be digging your own grave. Putting yourself in danger like that was plain stupid.
Still, the more Hayley thought about it, the more she wanted Grittin’s body
If she were half – zombie and could walk through zombie crowds without being attacked, this whole city recapture would already
be over.
That ability was even more tempting than an antidote.
“Raarh!”
The farther they went, the more zombies filled the streets.

Hayley slowly stepped out of an alley. The massive swarm on the main road instantly sensed her presence.
They charged straight at her
Hayley grabbed Griffin and slung him onto her back, using him as a human shield.
She activated her teleportation ability and blinked across the zombie–filled streets at high speed. Before long, she reached the hospital entrance.
The explosives were on a timer. She only needed to plant them.
Following the hospital layout Alex had provided, she first placed one tenth of the charges in the outpatient building.
Hospitals were ground zero.
On the very first day the zombie virus broke out, Hayley had passed by a hospital and been stunted by the waves of zombies pouring out.
