The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 336

Chapter 336

“Hey, beautiful,” Griffin spoke up, “we’re here to rescue you. Do you have any other companions? If you do, we can take all of you with us.”

“Yes!” the woman shouted immediately. “I have lots of companions!”

Hayley grew more and more speechless. She wouldn’t call herself a good person, but Griffin was even worse.

Why on earth did this woman trust that slimy Griffin and treat him completely differently from her? Was she really that much worse than he?

Griffin turned to Hayley with a faint, unreadable smile. “Undo it. I’ll go scout ahead for you.”

Hayley thought for three seconds, then unlocked the cuffs. She didn’t fully free him, though. Instead, she tied a 30-foot rope between them.

At that distance, if Griffin tried to bolt, she could teleport twice and catch him instantly. That was the maxifrm safety range she was willing to allow.

Once Griffin was tethered, he strode toward the woman.

Seeing him approach, the woman didn’t back away. “We have lots of companions! I’ll take you to see trem!”

Hayley followed behind Griffin, listening to their conversation. Every time the woman finished a sentence, Hayley gave the rope a small tug.

Griffin clearly understood what she meant and smoothly continued, “How many people are there?”

“A lot, a lot,” the woman said excitedly. “We’re all in the rooms. There are so many of us!”

“How do you survive?”

“We keep the doors tightly shut and don’t make any noise. If you make noise, you get discovered. We don’t talk at all. We just stay in the rooms.”

“What about food and water?”

“We have lots to eat and drink. Lots and lots. We can’t even finish it.”

Hayley frowned slightly.

From what she was hearing, it did sound possible that they had survived. If they stayed in the farthest rooms and had enough

rngris. food and water, it wasn’t impossible.

Still, something felt off.

A group of survivors living in a zombie-filled hospital, with plenty of food and water? And this woman could just wander out here on her own?

Hayley gently pulled back on the rope again.

Griffin immediately switched to casual chatter. “By the way, what’s your name? Are you a nurse?”

“My name is Kendall Corbyn. I’m a doctor.”

“A doctor? But you’re wearing a nurse’s uniform.”

“My doctor’s coat got dirty, so I put this on instead. Don’t I look just like a nurse?”

“You really do, Ms. Nightingale.”

At that naine, the woman furned to look at Griffin and said seriously, “You’ve got the wrong person. My name isn’t Ms. Nightingale.”

Griffin froze for a moment Confusion flashed across his charming, roguish face, box he recovered quickly. “Sorry I was just

joking.”
