The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 344

Chapter 344

Hayley snapped the lock back into place and turned, sprinting toward the next exit door.

Bang, bang, bang!

Bang, bang!

She ran through three emergency stairwells in a row. Every single one of them was packed with zombies.

They had stayed in the hospital for far too long. Every time Griffin went in or out, he dragged another swarm of zombies wi

him.

All the emergency exits on the third floor had been completely flooded.

Hayley ran dozens of yards, all the way into the inpatient wing, and still couldn’t find a usable way out.

The mutated zombie stayed right on their heels.

Then she heard it.

Tap, tap, tap.

Dense, rapid footsteps, coming from all directions.

“The bad doctors are here!” the woman cried in terror from Hayley’s shoulder. This time, the fear in her voice was even wors than when she had seen the mutated zombie.

Hayley skidded to a sudden stop mid-run. In a span of seconds, she understood exactly what the woman meant by bad doctor

Up ahead, in the inpatient wing, a massive group of doctor zombies was approaching.

Some had stethoscopes still hanging around their necks. Others clutched clipboards or surgical tools. Their pale faces were stretched tight over bone, with limping legs, broken arms, and exposed, torn-open bellies under blood-soaked white coats.

Behind them, waves of nurse zombies in various colored scrubs followed.

The zombies were packed wall to wall.

It looked like a scene straight out of a nightmare hospital movie.

Hayley’s group was completely surrounded, with patient zombies behind them and doctor zombies and nurses in ont

Crash!

Hayley slammed shut the door to a nearby exam room.

At this point, she had to admit the woman’s hiding strategy actually worked sometimes. When it came down to it, hiching was better than nothing

Bang!

Bang!

Bang!

“Can you use your gift again?” Hayley set the woman down calmly, deliberately keeping the pressure off as she spoke with a relaxed expression. “Like what you did earlier. Can you trick them into leaving?”

The woman hugged the two children tightly. The pounding outside grew louder. This time, she shook her head

“They found us. We’re caught.”

“Don’t be scared. Relax,” Hayley said evenly. “We won’t make a sound. Try again.”

The woman shook her head harder. “No! The doctors will give me shots. They’ve found us!”

Hayley took a deep breath. It was clear now. This gift wasn’t something the woman could consciously control.

She dragged a cabinet over and jammed it against the door, then scanned the exam room.

Her gaze snapped upward.

The ceiling vents!

She had an idea.

They could get up there and escape through the vents.

Click!

She stepped onto the desk and yanked down the vent cover.

“Give me the kids,” Hayley said firmly. “We’re going out through the ceiling. Got it?”

This time, the woman understood immediately. She rushed forward, clutching the children.

“Okay!”

Hayley lifted the kids one by one, then grabbed the woman and hauled her into the vent.

Bang!
