Hayley rested in her shelter for two full days

During those two days, Ruby took care of her like a student home on vacation

The way Ruby kept asking Hayley what she needed made Hayley feel as if she had gone back to years ago, when Cynthia had taken care of her down to the smallest detail.

Cynthia had been a gentle, traditional woman who adored Hayley. Hayley never had to do housework Every day, Cynthia found new ways to make her favorite foods.

With Bernard away and only one daughter, Cynthia doted on Hayley as if she were the center of the world

Ruby’s personality was different from Cynthia’s, but when it came to loving Hayley, the two were exactly

the same.

Ever since meeting Ruby in this life, Hayley felt like her temper had mellowed a lot. She had practically

become civilized.

“Have you guys noticed the boss acting differently lately?” Robert asked after seeing Hayley come out, turning to his overworked buddies.

“How so?”

“She doesn’t curse anymore.”

Everyone fell silent.

A ton of people contacted Hayley every day. Most of the messages were handled by Robert, though he always checked with Hayley before replying.

Whenever Hayley heard something ridiculous, like someone asking her to donate food to their base for free, or demanding free evolution serum for their Gifted, she would usually curse first

And Robert would get cursed along with them.

But now…

“I just reported the recent messages to the boss, and she didn’t curse once. She replied to every message seriously.”

“How seriously?”

“Well, Southside Base said they want Haylight League to move over to their place. The boss said it was a

great suggestion, and she accepted, but we’ve got a lot of people, and moving takes time. She told them to hang in there. Give it 500 years, and we’ll definitely make it

“Summer Base said they’re facing a food crisis and asked us for 30 tons of food. The boss said that was way too little, so she would send them 100 million tons instead. She said she would deliver it to therin a dream and told them to sign upon receipt.

“And then there’s Bluesea Base. They demanded we make our gene serum formula public Said it belongs to all humanity and shouldn’t be privately owned, and that refusing to share it freely would be betraying all mankind. Want to guess how the boss replied?”

“People like that make me want to curse,” Leonard said.

Thomas scowled. “If he said that to my face, I’d slap him dead.”

Griffin just smiled and said nothing.

Robert continued seriously, “Well, the boss didn’t get mad at all. She actually smiled and said she has a brain tumor and urgently needs a smarter brain to replace her own, or she might forget the formula. She said his brain sounded perfect, ideal for a transplant. With his intelligence, she’d never forget it again and could share it with everyone. She told him to come over right away for the surgery. One sacrifice for the good of all humanity. After a moment of stunned silence, the whole group burst out laughing.

Meanwhile, Hayley was back in her shelter, surrounded by a pack of dogs while sipping the fruit tea Ruby had just brewed. She was sprawled on the couch watching TV with the air conditioning on full blast.
