Liam was disciplined like a rulebook, restrained like a precision instrument.
He worked quietly and carefully, carrying out his duties without drawing attention, never missing a detail His personal emotions were always placed dead last. He never showed them
Yet now, he couldn’t help it. Just like Derek and the others, he wrapped his arms around Hayley
He couldn’t control it.
He just wanted to hold her.
“Hay…”
“You shut up, too,” Hayley cut him off fast and shoved him away with one hand.
Liam froze.
“Boss, we’re thirsty!” Derek hurriedly said.
“Yeah. Got any water?”
“Please, just give us some water first.”
Half an hour later…
Everyone who had been rescued was sitting in the subway tunnel, gulping down the water Hayley had given them.
All of them looked like disaster refugees. Their lips were cracked, their faces dry and wrinkled; all were showing different levels of dehydration.
Only after drinking Hayley’s water did they slowly come back to life.
Hayley had Leonard and the others make some food. Big pots of boxed pasta were boiled and handed out batch by batch.
She checked the time on her watch. It was 7 p.m.
“We’ll spend the night in the tunnel tonight. We’ll head out tomorrow.”
“Alright.”
“No problem.”
“Whatever you say, Boss!”
Derek and the others responded enthusiastically.
Liam, holding a bowl of pasta, lifted his head and just smiled at Hayley.
At that moment, a middle-aged man walked over. When he reached Hayley, he held her hands
“What are you doing?” Hayley asked.
Kit, the leader of Milky Way Base, said excitedly, “Captain Reid, thank you for saving everyone at our baser
“No need to thank me.”
Kit shook his head. “You’ve saved our base too many times. You gave us supplies and support for half a year, and today, you saved us again. Everyone at our base owes you our lives!”
As soon as he finished speaking, over 90 people from Milky Way Base, men and women of all ages, looked at Hayley, their eyes glimmering with gratitude.
Seeing this, Hayley said, “You’re welcome. Everyone, eat.”
Kit was deeply moved, his eyes shining as he looked at Hayley. “Captain Reid, I don’t think I’m fit to stay on as the leader of Milky Way Base. I want to bring our entire base under yours. I hope you’ll take all of us in. From now on, we’ll follow your command.”
Hayley’s brows raised.
So they were offering her a whole base in unconditional surrender.
In the apocalypse, such a thing was extremely rare.
