The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 379

Chapter 379

The woman invited Hayley’s group to go straight up to the second floor, putting as much distance as possible between themselves and what was below.

Hayley exchanged a look with the others. Everyone lowered their weapons but kept them in hand, ready to attack at any moment.

They went up the stairs to the second floor. Freddie and the others carried Simon’s body up with them

Once they reached the second floor, the zombie horde outside on the first floor lost its target completely With nothing left to focus on, they gradually wandered away from the rolling shutter.

“Who are you?” Monica Fletcher asked as soon as they reached the second floor, standing with her base members as she questioned Hayley.

“I’m Hayley Reid, from Haylight League.”

“Haylight League?” Monica’s delicate brows tightened slightly.

“Never heard of it?” Hayley didn’t avoid Monica’s gaze at all as she openly sized the woman up.

Monica looked about 29. Her features were clean and balanced. She wasn’t a breathtaking beauty, but

her figure was outstanding, and she carried a strong, commanding presence.

The more Hayley looked, the more surprised she became. This was the first female leader she had seen

since the apocalypse began.

Even in peaceful times, it was hard for women to compete head-on with men for leadership, let alone in the apocalypse.

Women were naturally at a disadvantage in stamina and strength. Being soft-hearted and repulsed by killing were fatal flaws in this world. They almost always ended up at the bottom of the social hierarchy.

So far, Monica was the only female leader Hayley had encountered.

“No.” Monica shook her head lightly, her gaze still fixed on Hayley. “Where did you come from?”

“Fairytale Park Station.”

“You ran here through the subway tunnels?”

“That’s right.”

At that, Monica’s expression changed.

Fairytale Park Station was two miles from here. She had seen massive waves of zombies flooding out of

that station days ago. That meant these people had been chased all the way here.

To survive and escape from such a huge zombie horde, their strength had to be extraordinary.

The thought made Monica even more cautious

She studied Hayley and her group again and again. After a long time, she spoke

“This building is the territory of Evergreen Base I’m also the chairwoman of Evergreen Mall My name is Monica. I hold absolute authority over this building. I’ll give you two days to rest here After two days, you leave my base. Otherwise, I won’t be polite.”

“No problem.” Hayley agreed without hesitation.

That quick agreement made her even harder to read.

Monica had expected Hayley to argue. In the apocalypse, refugees usually clung to any safe zone they could find. People didn’t leave easily.

Yet, Hayley agreed right away.

Were they really planning to leave?
