Once Hayley was sure what kind of person Scott really was, she stopped discussing league matters in the vehicle altogether.

Scott tried several times to jump into the conversation, but she casually brushed him off every time.

Instead, she kept asking Milo and Liam how they had survived the past six months. That kind of topir got both of them talking nonstop, so Scott never really found a chance to speak.

It wasn’t until their convoy reached the edge of Crestford that things finally paused.

Milo got ready to leave with Scott.

“I still have to go back,” Milo said. “Once things are completely wrapped up over there, I’ll come find you again.

“Even though I’ll miss you, a short separation is for a better reunion later,” Hayley replied in a very official tone) Then, she turned to Scott. “Captain Fuller, meeting you today felt like finding a kindred spirit. Once Tomorrow Base is fully out, I’ll definitely host a proper meal for all of you.”

Scott’s eyes flashed behind his gold–rimmed glasses. “Same here. Anyway, it’s getting late. You should head back.

Hayley personally got out of the vehicle to see them off. She warmly escorted Scott into one car first, then sent Milo to another.

As she turned away, she lowered her voice and said to Milo, “From now on, keep up the appearance of support, but let Scott handle his own push. You get what I mean.”

Milo’s eyes lit up. He suddenly laughed. “I almost thought you had gone soft back there in the car.”

Hayley rolled her eyes.

Milo had dealt with Scott before. After that encounter, he knew exactly how dangerous the man was. Seeing Hayley act so friendly earlier, he thought she had been fooled.

Luckily, Hayley was still Hayley.

They helped for the sake of league strategy, not to raise a tiger that might bite back.

“Alright, I’m off. You can trust me to handle things,” Milo said, patting her on the head before getting into the car.

After Milo and Scott left, Hayley’s group set off again.

By early the next morning, everyone had returned to Aecraton.

The moment Monica entered Hayley’s territory, she was completely overwhelmed. Along the way, she didn’t see a single zombie, not even inside the city.

The streets were spotless, and the buildings were quiet. There were no zombie noises anywhere. Signs of peaceful

human life had returned.

Hayley had designated the safest zone and relocated several league bases there to live. For now, everyone moving in was participating in city cleanup efforts.

They cleared away the zombies they had killed and restored abandoned parts of the city.

The scene was enough to leave anyone stunned.
