Chapter 438
It suddenly clicked.
“I’ve got it!” Hayley exclaimed.
She shoved the metal box into Griffin’s hands, opened it, and pulled out the property deed inside.
Two names were listed as the owners.
Bruno and Elizabeth Goodman.
At that moment, the third-floor stair landing was littered with unconscious bodies. Everyone looked trapped in the depths of nightmare.
Among them, one person struggled the hardest.
“Let me out! I want out! My wife and kid are waiting for me!”
An old woman in a knitted cardigan came hobbling over, leaning on her cane. Her withered face looked like a dead, ancient tre drained of all life.
She glared at the man who was about to wake up, hatred flashing in her eyes.
“You evil thing! Trying to steal my son again… Not a chance!”
She raised her cane and brought it down hard toward his head.
Just then, she heard a shout.
“Elizabeth! Something happened to Samson! His eye is injured. Come back now!”
Three seconds after Hayley called out, the sound of a cane clattering to the floor echoed.
In the blink of an eye, the room around them reverted to the dim, dusty corridor.
The old woman in the knitted cardigan came limping toward them in a panic.
“Samson! My Samson! What happened to my boy?”
Just as she was about to rush through the doorway, someone grabbed the back of her neck from behind and slammed her against the wall.
“Mrs. Goodman, let us leave.”
Hayley’s cool, clear voice sounded behind her.
The old woman stiffened, then flew into a rage. So you’re evil, too! You want to tear my son away from me!”
“Be good and let all of us go,” Hayley said calmly, “or I won’t hold back ”
“In your dreams! I will never be separated from my son!” the old woman screamed
Just then, another voice cut in
“Mom, I want to go out ”
The moment the old woman heard Griffin’s voice, the tury drained from her fare She slowly turned her frail head to look at him
Griffin shot Hayley a quick look
He stepped in front of the old woman and smiled gently

“Mom, I’m grown now. It’s time for me to go out and live my own life. You wouldn’t want me to be stuck at the mine forever, going nowhere, right?”
Her body stiffened even more.
“But… People will laugh at you out there.”
“Even if they do, I still want to go,” Griffin said earnestly. “I want to do what I love, see the world. I want new friends. I want to be free, like an eagle in the sky. Mom, let us go.”
His expression was sincere enough to move anyone.
“The excitement and joy slowly drained from the old woman’s face as she looked at him.
“Are you really Samson?”
“Of course I am,” Griffin said with a grin, crouching in front of her.
She suddenly reached out and grabbed the eye patch on his face.
Just as she was about to pull it off, a hand snapped up and covered his eye.
