The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 46

Chapter 46

Hayley’s strength was no joke now.

The steel security door didn’t stand a chance. One hard kick, and it swung open with a bang.

The moment the door gave way, she and her four dogs scattered to either side.

A guttural roar split the silence.

Three starving zombies lunged out.

Two were women, and one was a man. One of the women must’ve been gorgeous when she was alive, for she still looked better than most corpses. Her face was eerily intact, though one leg had been chewed clean to the bone.

The second woman hadn’t been so lucky. Most of her face had been eaten away, a fake nose implant dangling crookedly where it didn’t belong. One eye bulged out, crawling with yellow maggots wriggling through the mangled flesh.

The man wore a torn but once-elegant suit. A gaping hole split open his chest, his arms clawing desperately in the air. The instant he caught the scent of fresh blood, he lunged forward like a madman.

The second the zombies burst out, Hayley swung her shovel and sent one flying.

The other two didn’t stand a chance. Her dogs leapt in as a pack, tearing the zombies down in seconds. As trained military dogs, they made things much easier for Hayley.

Thud, thud, thud!

All three zombies dropped dead, just like that. Quick, clean, and precise.

For Hayley, taking out zombies was almost routine.

She tapped the doorframe with the handle of her shovel, making noise to lure out more zombies.

However, nothing answered.

It looked like those three had been the only ones.

Still cautious, Hayley led her dogs inside. Even without zombies, she never let her guard down.

The place was a three-story villa-two floors above ground, one below. The furnishing was fancy, luxurious, and dripping with old-money wealth.

The inside, though, was wrecked.

Empty bottles and food trays littered the floor, while piles of neatly wrapped gifts crowded the entryway.
