Chapter 479
Once Mason figured it out, he knew there was no one left he could rely on.
The managers below weren’t going to care whether he lived or died. If he wanted to survive, he had to do it himself.
As zombies surged in from all sides, he shoved the two people in front of him aside, left and right, buying hims a sliver of space. Using that opening, he forced his way toward the middle of the group.
At that moment, a series of beeps sounded ahead.
Hayley’s team had opened the Level Three gate.
The moment it opened, they poured inside without hesitation. They didn’t spare a single glance for the people behind them.
Seeing this, Mason completely lost it.
“You have to save me! I’m the Level Two manager at Ark One! You don’t have to save those nobodies, but you ha to save me!”
In the darkness, a zombie lunged at him with its jaws wide.
At the critical moment, Mason shoved the runner in front of him straight into the zombie again.
“Aaah!” Lydia was grabbed by the hair and yanked violently backward, thrown straight into a zombie rushing in from the side.
The force was so brutal that Shana, who had been holding her hand, nearly got dragged down with her.
Luckily, Gideon reacted fast and pulled Shana back.
But no one grabbed Lydia.
She was about to be swallowed by the horde, until…
Just then, a man slammed into her from behind.
“Kevin…!”
Lydia stared in disbelief at the man who had turned sideways and taken the zombie’s bite for her.
Her feet froze in place.
“Enough with the drama!” Mason kicked the couple again and sprinted forward.
“Raarh!”
“Raarh!”
“Raarh!”
With that kick, the couple was sent tumbling straight into the zombie swarm.
Mason was the first to reach Hayley’s group and slip inside.
“Don’t close it! Save me! I’m the Level Two manager! I’m useful! You have to save me!”

Hayley, already furious at his repetitive mention of his manager status, surr

“Go to hell, you piece of trash!”
Without hesitation, Hayley ordered the gate shut.

At that moment, Gideon came rushing up with Shana and Stephen. In the darkness, the three of them looked at Hayley with raw, desperate hope in their eyes.
Hayley looked at the three ordinary people.
“Get in.”
She might lash out when she was angry, even kill an entire base if pushed far enough, but she never turned that anger on the powerless bottom rung who had been oppressed all along. 1
She let the only three survivors through.
The moment they crossed the threshold, the massive gate began to drop.
Just before it hit the ground, a man rolled in from outside, clutching a wornan in his arms.
When they hit the floor, Kevin loosened his grip. The woman in his arms was unharmed.
“Kevin!”
“Lydia!”
Gideon and Shana shouted at the same time.
Lydia immediately turned to look at the man who had carried her in.
His left shoulder was torn open, a slab of flesh ripped along the shoulder blade. Bright red blood soaked his entire back. The massive blood loss had drained all color from his face.
Lydia stared at him in panic. “Kevin…”
“L-Lydia.” Curled up in pain, Kevin reached out and grabbed her hand. He forced a smile through the agony. time… I didn’t let go.”
In that instant, Lydia’s tears fell like beads, one after another.
