Hayley added two new residents, gaining 200 points.
Since Stephen and Lydia were ordinary people, Hayley didn’t receive any special attribute rewards.
Still, they each brought solid, practical skills.
Before the apocalypse, Lydia had worked in the food industry. Stephen was a senior electrical technician.
Hayley placed them into roles that suited them best.
Haylight League was still young, with everything needing to be built from the ground up.
Right now, it needed people more than anything. Even ordinary people were valuable resources.
And Hayley had never believed there was any real divide between ordinary people and the Gifted.
In her past life, she had been an ordinary person without any gifts herself.
Yet through sheer effort and stubbornness, she had held her own in a small base just as well as those with gifts.
Some things, like where you were born or whether you awakened gifts, weren’t choices you got to make. But effort after the fact could slowly close the gap left by those disadvantages,
In Hayley’s eyes, individual differences were never the problem.
Your starting line might set the limits of how high or low you could go, but how hard you lived would determine how bright your life really became.
Hayley always chose to live forward, one day at a time.
After settling the two newcomers, who were still wide-eyed like country folk seeing a grand city for the first time, Hayley finally went to sleep.
She had a full meal, a hot shower, and a long, comfortable rest.
There was nothing better in the world.
With their leader safely home, the entire Haylight League base drifted into deep, peaceful sleep.
But while things were calm here, elsewhere, chaos reigned all night long.
[Why hasn’t Ark One sent a distress call yet?]
Inside the Ark network, Ark Two privately messaged Ark Three.
[I was about to ask you the same thing. Did they contact you privately to negotiate terms?]
[No. Just the usual messages on the public channel. Ark One’s been silent for over ten hours now. You think they’ve completely fallen?]
[I’ve been wondering the same. After this long without contact, they’re probably gone.]
Ark Two snapped, [What the hell? You sneaky piece of work! You secretly went to help them!]
Ark Three shot back, [You’ve got some nerve! You’re the one who broke our agreement and went to help, and now you’re trying to pin it on us? Are you for real?]
