The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 49

Chapter 49

At the same time, the man was sure of one thing.

Fresh vegetables had to be worth a fortune out there.

Hardly anyone on the outside was still eating anything fresh. His crops were definitely trade material.

To his shock, Hayley didn’t even care.

As Hayley started to walk off, the man quickly called after her. “Miss! What do you need? Money? We still have some! Whatever you want if we’ve got it, we’ll trade!”

That made Hayley pause. For the first time, she actually looked interested. Her gaze drifted toward their Villa Nine.

“I want your house.”

The man froze.

What the hell? Of all things to ask for during the apocalypse, she wanted a house? It wasn’t food or clothing. What use was that?

“I’ll give you 500 pounds of pasta, 50 pounds of meat, 100 eggs, and ten cases of milk. In exchange, you give me this house.”

It was an amazing offer. Before the apocalypse, all of that together wouldn’t have even been worth five grand, not even enough to buy a single square foot of the villa.

But now? That amount of food for a house was an incredible deal.

The couple, however, exchanged troubled looks. They could give up the house, but where would they live after that?

“If we sell you the house, can we still stay here?” the man asked carefully, pushing up glasses.

Then, his eyes glinted with determination as he came up with an idea.

his

“My family can work for you. Half of everything we grow, we’ll hand over to you. We’ll be your workers.”

The moment the words left her mouth, an unseen force linked her with the family of three.

Anthony and Kate Simmons suddenly felt it, too. For reasons they couldn’t explain, when they looked at Hayley now, it was as if they were gazing at a god. A reverence welled up in them, along with the urge to submit.

Meanwhile, Hayley could feel a strange, powerful energy running through her body.

She reached toward Anthony’s crate of greens, and the vegetables instantly began to grow wildly, shooting up even faster than Anthony could ever control on his own.

Anthony and Kate’s eyes widened in shock. Now they understood why Hayley hadn’t cared about their vegetables before.

She was a wood-element Gifted, too.

And she was far stronger than Anthony!

In that moment, an unusual mix of emotions surged through both of them-equal parts gratitude and sheer awe.

She had everything she could ever want, yet she still chose to welcome them in. She was much too kind and generous!
